ORDINANCE 356 <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF <br /> THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS <br /> AMENDING TITLE. 8 (BUILDING REGULATIONS) <br /> OF THE LOS ALTOS HILLS MUNICIPAL CODE <br /> TO ADOPT THE 1991 UNIFORM BUILDING CODE <br /> AND TO REQUIRE FIRE-RETARDANT ROOFING <br /> WHEREAS, in the last several years fires in communities <br /> located in Bay Area hills have caused extensive property damage <br /> and, in some cases, injury and death; and <br /> WHEREAS, roofs which are not fire-retardant can contribute <br /> to the spread of fires, and therefore pose a risk to the safety <br /> of the Town's citizens and their property; and <br /> WHEREAS, the voters of Los Altos Hills, by way of an <br /> advisory ballot measure on June 2, 1992, voted in favor of the <br /> City Council's adopting an ordinance requiring fire-retardant <br /> roofs; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Town of Los Altos Hills wishes to require roofs <br /> in the Town to meet certain standards of fire-retardancy; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Town of Los Altos Hills also wishes to adopt <br /> the 1991 Uniform Building Code as the code of record for the <br /> Town; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the Town of Los Altos Hills does ORDAIN as <br /> follows: <br /> Section 1. Amendment to Code. Section 8-1. 01 (Adoption of <br /> Building Code, 1985 Edition) of Title 8 (Building Regulations) , <br /> Chapter 1 (Building Code) of the Los Altos Hills Municipal Code <br /> is hereby amended to read: <br /> Sec. 8-1.01. Adoption of Uniform Building Code. <br /> (a) The Building Code of the Town of Los Altos Hills, <br /> incorporated by reference herein except as otherwise <br /> provided in this Chapter, is the code of rules, regulations <br /> and standards published by the International Conference of <br /> Building Officials. under the title "Uniform Building Code, <br /> 1991 Edition, " as amended by the California Building <br /> Standards Commission (designated the "Primary Code") , and <br /> the "Uniform Building Code Standards, 1991 Edition" <br /> (designated the "Secondary Code") (collectively called the <br /> "Building Code") . <br /> (b) Three (3) copies of the Building Code shall be <br /> kept on file in the office of the City Clerk. <br />
