RESOLUTION 19-21 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS <br />ALTOS HILLS CONDEMNING ANTI -ASIAN HATE AND VIOLENCE <br />WHEREAS, as a community, Los Altos Hills, has zero tolerance for hate incidents against any <br />racial or ethnic group; and <br />WHEREAS, on May 21, 2020, the City Council of the Town Los Altos adopted Resolution 18- <br />20 denouncing xenophobia and anti -Asian sentiment arising at the start of the COVID- 19 <br />pandemic and affirming its commitment to the well-being and safety of Asian American <br />communities; and <br />WHEREAS, Asian communities are immensely diverse, consisting of multiple ethnicities, <br />hundreds of languages and dialects, wide-ranging socioeconomic characteristics, and distinct <br />immigration patterns; and <br />WHEREAS, while the pandemic's long-lasting impact has affected public health and the <br />economy, the Asian -American community has also experienced the fallout of Covid-19, being <br />unfairly blamed for the pandemic and becoming the target of discrimination and violence; and <br />WHEREAS, scientists have confirmed that Covid-19 does not respect borders and is not caused <br />by ethnicity, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has cautioned against using geographic <br />descriptors because they can fuel ethnic discrimination; and <br />WHEREAS, it is important that the Town take leadership and stand in solidarity with its Asian <br />American communities to send a message that discriminatory and hate -motivated behavior will <br />not be tolerated. <br />NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS <br />HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1. The Los Altos Hills City Council strongly condemns and denounces anti - <br />Asian sentiment in any form. <br />SECTION 2. The Los Altos Hills City Council recognizes a racially inclusive environment <br />is essential to the health and safety of all its residents. <br />SECTION 3. The Los Altos Hills City Council calls on local law enforcement to work <br />with State and Federal law enforcement officials to investigate and document all credible reports <br />of COVID-19-related hate crimes and threats. <br />The above and foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the City Council of the Town of <br />Los Altos Hills at a regular meeting held on 15th of April 2021 by the following vote: <br />AYES: Tankha, Tyson, Mok, Schmidt, Swan <br />Resolution 19-21 Page 1 <br />
