Mirenda concurred. <br /> Mirenda updated Council on the status of the project noting that the demolition of the old <br /> Town Hall is complete and grading of the site will begin next week. He described the <br /> foundation and soils stabilization process that had been designed by the geotech <br /> consultant for the new buildings. Mirenda explained that the revision for this part of the <br /> construction had generated a considerable cost savings for the project. An additional cost <br /> savings change will be the use of a cement fiber material that simulates wood for the skin <br /> of the building. <br /> 5.1.1b Award of Contracts for New Town Hall Project <br /> Discussion included in Item 5.5.1 a. <br /> Mayor O'Malley explained that the New Town Hall Committee including himself, <br /> Councilmembers Cheng and Warshawsky and Mayor Pro Tem Kerr had reviewed the re- <br /> bids, contracts, and engaged in extensive discussions and examination of the project with <br /> the architect and TBI at their regular meeting last night. O'Malley noted that the re-bid <br /> and efforts of value engineering and alternate materials had managed to bring the project <br /> • costs closer to the original estimated budget without sacrificing the look or integrity of <br /> the design of the new Town Hall. <br /> Mayor Pro Tem Kerr noted that the increase in the costs of the project had been driven by <br /> the surge in the construction industry activity and rising material costs.
