CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL <br /> Mayor Finn called the Special Meeting of the City Council to order at 5:30 p.m. in <br /> the Council Chambers at Town Hall. <br /> Present: Mayor Finn and Councilmembers Casey, Cheng, Dauber <br /> and Johnson <br /> Absent: None <br /> Staff: Acting City Manager Bob Quinlan, City Attorney Sandy <br /> Sloan, Public Works Manager Jim Rasp and City Clerk Pat <br /> Dowd <br /> 2. DISCUSSION OF GENERAL TOPICS OF INTEREST WITH THE <br /> REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY <br /> CENTRAL FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT <br /> Fire Chief Doug Sporleder commented that they had been providing fire <br /> protection services to the Town since 1996. The emergency response times were <br /> very good but the regulatory side of fire protection was more difficult. He <br /> referred to their involvement in land issues and their responsibility to enforce the <br /> fire codes. Chief Sporleder distributed a copy of their business plan for 1998 — <br /> 2003 and a copy of their customer satisfaction survey. <br /> In response to an inquiry from Council, Chief Sporleder commented on the <br /> required driveway width issue. He noted that they needed 14' in order to open the <br /> doors on the trucks. Because of the engine configuration in the truck it was not <br /> possible for the firefighters to crawl over and get out the other door. However, it <br /> did not have to be all hard surface driveway, just a flat area on which they could <br /> land. Chief Sporleder also commented on the sprinkler and/or fire hydrant issue. <br /> He stated that there were specific distance requirements for hydrants to the house <br /> to eliminate the need for sprinklers.
