RESOLUTION NO. 110-05 <br /> RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS COMMEMORATING THE <br /> 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SANTA CLARA VALLEY WATER DISTRICT <br /> WHEREAS,for the last 75 years,the Santa Clara Valley Water District has acted as the <br /> steward for Santa Clara County's water resources and worked to ensure that creek ecosystems are <br /> healthy,that there was enough clean,safe water for homes and businesses,and has protected <br /> valley residents from devastating floods;and <br /> WHEREAS,the District has an established history of providing public service that <br /> protects the water resources in Santa Clara County,promotes public health,the livability and <br /> desirability of the County,the local economic base and environment;and <br /> WHEREAS,in November 2000,Santa Clara County voters overwhelmingly supported <br /> the District-sponsored ballot measure that created a countywide special parcel tax to fund the <br /> Clean,Safe Creeks and Natural Flood Protection Program;and <br /> WHEREAS,the Clean,Safe Creeks Program provides protection to 13,600 homes,43 <br /> schools and other public facilities, 1,040 businesses,and 220 miles of streets and highways from <br /> flooding and erosion through nine capital improvement projects,sediment-removal projects and <br /> maintenance of newly improved creeks;and <br /> WHEREAS,in 2004 the District,along with staff representatives of the County of Santa <br /> Clara,the cities in Santa Clara County,the Guadalupe-Coyote Resource Conservation District, <br /> the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board,various business and development <br /> interests,environmental,property owner,and community interests have formed andare members <br /> of the Santa Clara Valley Water Resources Protection Collaborative in order to share the water <br /> and watershed resources protection goals of flood management,drinking water quality and <br /> adequate quantity,surface and groundwater quality and quantity,and habitat protection and <br /> enhancement;and <br /> 'WHEREAS,in January 2005,the completion of the Guadalupe River Park and Flood <br /> Protection Project,a joint effort of the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers,the Santa Clara Valley <br /> Water District,the City of San Jose,and the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Jose,is <br /> nationally recognized as a model in combining effective flood protection,habitat enhancement <br /> and restoration,and recreation in an urban area;and <br /> WHEREAS,the District will continue to strive to ensure that there is a healthy and safe <br /> environment for residents and visitors by comprehensively managing water resources in a <br /> practical,cost-effective,and environmentally sensitive manner. <br /> NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF <br /> LOS ALTOS HILLS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> The Town of Los Altos Hills hereby commemorates the 7511i anniversary of the Santa Clara <br /> Valley Water District <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of December,2005 by the following vote,to wit: <br /> AYES: Mayor Kerr,Mayor Pro Tem Warshawsky,Councilmember Jones, <br /> Councilmember Mordo and Councilmember O'Malle <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None `[ <br /> ABSTAIN:None <br /> Iene Kerr,Mayor <br /> ATTEST: <br /> Karen Josteerk <br /> — — — — - <br />
