• <br /> Resolution No. 2 7-0 4 <br /> A Resolution of the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills <br /> Supporting A Joint League/CSAC Policy Statement <br /> To Decrease Impacts on Public Health and Safety <br /> Resulting From Wildland Urban Interface Fires <br /> WHEREAS,the Town of Los Altos Hills recognizes that the wildland fire <br /> problem is an issue of statewide importance and significance; and <br /> WHEREAS, extreme fire events such as the October/November 2003 Southern <br /> California fires will happen again unless improvements in fuel management, land use <br /> policies and fire safe building standards are put into place to protect lives, structures, <br /> infrastructure,watershed, community parklands, and other vital community assets; and <br /> WHEREAS the Executive Boards of the League of California Cities, herein <br /> referred to as the "League" and the California State Association of Counties, herein <br /> referred to as "CSAC", have unanimously adopted the attached Policy Statement that <br /> declares a"call to action"to create stronger defensive strategy for dealing with wildland <br /> fire threat, and; <br /> WHEREAS the defensible strategy involves a collaborative analysis of the land <br /> use, building standards and fuels management concerns associated with living in and near <br /> the wildland, and; <br /> WHEREAS,the League and CSAC will identify a core team of leaders who will <br /> join with political leaders from the State to lead a task force made up of community <br /> planners, environmental agencies,housing and economic development specialists, fire <br /> service representatives, law enforcement, business, and the insurance industry to <br /> implement the defensive strategy identified in the Policy Statement. <br /> NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Los Altos <br /> Hills on this 2nd day of June, 2004 supports the policy Statement signed by the Presidents <br /> and Executive Directors of the League and CSAC, and encourages that the League and <br /> CSAC move collaboratively and aggressively to seek implementation of the defensive <br /> identified in the Policy Statement. <br /> JADOPTED thisArb day of , 2004 <br /> By . <br /> ayor <br /> Attest: <br /> City Cc <br />
