May exercise technical and functional supervision <br /> over less experienced professional positions and technical staff. <br /> Senior Engineer(FLSA Exempt)—This is the advanced journey level class in the professional <br /> engineering series. This class is FLSA-exempt under the Learned Professional Exemption. <br /> Positions in this class perform the more complex professional engineering work and may <br /> supervise the work of lower level professional and technical engineering staff and/or the Town's <br /> maintenance crew. Appointment to this level requires considerable knowledge of engineering <br /> design and construction, subdivision laws and, as necessary,traffic engineering,utility system <br /> design or environmental engineering. Positions in this class Must have excellent written and verbal <br /> communication skills as evidenced by the ability to competently prepare written staff reports and <br /> recommendations for more complex engineering projects and to then effectively present such information <br /> at public meetings. Receives direction from the Public Works.Director/City Engineer. The Senior <br /> Engineer serves as the Acting Public Works Director/City Engineer in the department head's Engineer's <br /> absence. May exercise indirect functional and technical supervision over other professional, <br /> technical and maintenance staff. <br /> EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> Duties may include,but are not limited to,the following: <br /> • Perform professional and technical engineering work relative to assigned area of <br /> responsibility such as design, land development, capital improvements, roadways and <br /> traffic,pathways, and park facilities. <br /> • Designand prepare plans and specifications for public works projects including streets, <br /> storm drains, sanitary sewer lines; research project design requirements; perform <br /> calculations and prepare estimates of time and material costs. <br /> • Develop revised design and construction standards for public works structures and <br /> appurtenances. <br /> • Investigate field problems affecting property owners, contractors and maintenance <br /> operations;resolve problems or refer as appropriate. <br /> • Administer design and construction contracts; coordinate and review <br /> the work of outside <br /> consultants; review and recommend payments and billing for contracted services related <br /> to assigned projects;negotiate prices and schedules, as necessary. <br /> Assistant/Associate/Senior Engineer Series 2 <br /> Job Class Specifications—Proposed Adultg,n o.216-12 Page 4 <br />
