--14 <br /> • <br /> Resolution No. 49-09 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br /> THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS <br /> HONORING MARY DAVEY <br /> WHEREAS, For almost 50 years Mary Davey has been an exceptional and passionate advocate and <br /> worker to improve the quality of life in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Davey was one of the founding members of the Committee for Green Foothills, <br /> has served on its Board as President and as a Board Member for many years;and <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Davey was the first woman to be elected to serve on the Los Altos Hills City <br /> Council in 1966 and during her six years on the Council,including her time as Mayor, distinguished <br /> herself through unparalleled support of open space and community involvement;and <br /> WHEREAS,Mary Davey helped in 1968 to secure Byrne Preserve, the largest open space preserve in <br /> Los Altos Hills, for the Town and the enjoyment of the residents;and <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Davey helped found the Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space District in 1972 to <br /> safeguard, protect and preserve open space in northern Santa Clara and southern San Mateo Counties <br /> and serves today on the Board of MROSD, which has permanently preserved nearly 55,000 acres of <br /> open space creating 25 open space preserves; and <br /> WHEREAS,Mary Davey has served on the Open Space Committee of the Town of Los Altos Hills <br /> since its formation in 2003 as a valued and contributing member of the Committee; and <br /> WHEREAS,Mary Davey successfully led the group that purchased and still owns the Peninsula <br /> Conservation Center in Palo Alto,which provides office space for a dozen or so environmental <br /> organizations, thus increasing the effectiveness, coordination and stability of all. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Los Altos Hills City Council takes note of <br /> these many accomplishments and contributions on behalf of the community of Los Altos Hills and <br /> honors and congratulates Mary Davey, as it adds its voice to the award being presented to her by the <br /> Committee for Green Foothills. <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED: September 10, 2009 by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> -Dea .rshawsky,Mayor I <br /> Attest: <br /> & ` <br /> Karen Jost, ;rk <br /> 45 <br />
