4W VARIANCE AND PER41T 00"MISSION <br />Town of Los Altos Hills <br />26379 Fremont Road <br />Los Altos Hills, California <br />Wednesday, February 22, 1978 <br />MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING <br />Reel 67, Side 1, Tr.1, 677 to 869 <br />Chairman Dochnahl called the meting to order in the Council Chambers of the <br />Town Hall at 7:05 P.M.. <br />1060worly" <br />Present: Caffmissioners VanTamelen, Perkins, Dochnahl <br />Also Present: Town Engineer Alexander Russell, Town Planner/Engineer John Marki, <br />Secretary Ethel Hopkins <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES: <br />MOTION SECONDED AND APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY: It was moved by Commissioner VanTamelen, <br />seconded by Commissioner Perkins, and passed by unanimous consent that the Minutes <br />of the meeting of February 8 be approved as written. <br />4W PUBLIC HEARINGS: <br />LR4DS OF PAPOULIAS, Fi�4#V t.r0705V0'r7j" 26101 Maurer Lane, Paul Nowack and <br />Associates, Engineer, i _ ance from Setback in Sideyard Area for <br />the Purpose of Constructing a Tennis Court <br />Mr. Markl introduced the request for variance from Mr. Papoulias, noting that <br />the applicant wished to construct a tennis court in the side yard area of his <br />property but that in doing so his setback would be reduced from thirty to twenty <br />feet. He added that a drainage easement and ditch was the only unusual feature <br />on the property, and that the request for variance was a stTaight-forward request. <br />A full discussion of the matter was contained in the staff report dated February 17. <br />He referred the Commission to Mr. Papoulias, who would speak for the variance <br />request. <br />il In the discussion between Commissioners and applicant, it was em- 'e-CQ;sds_�doo <br />t! phasized by the Commission that the, bases for granting a variance njupal_-Gade, <br />a are specified by the State. One of these, hardship, had not been demonstrated. a tennis court was <br />not an amenity consicterea necessary for every developed lot. am"19a 1140-ff <br />It was pointed out by Mr. Russell that Resolution No. 694 was written some five <br />years ago, and that since then tennis has become an activity des ired by many in- <br />habitants of the Town. Further, that them would be little grading to be done <br />on Mr. Papoulias' lot because the land is flat. He recommended a reconsideration <br />of the variance request under these circumstances.
