I w <br />VARIANCE AND PERMIT COMMISSION <br />�✓ Town of Los Altos Hills <br />26379 Fremont Road <br />Los Altos Hills, California <br />MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING <br />Wednesday, January 23, 1980 <br />Reel 83, Side 1, Tr. 1, 166 to 553 <br />Chairman Dochnahl called the meeting of the Variance and Permit Commission to order <br />at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall. <br />ROLL CALL: <br />Present: Commissioners Rydell, Carico and Dochnahl <br />Absent: None <br />Also Present: City Enqineer/Planner John Carlson, Secretary Ethel Hopkins <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES: <br />There being no corrections to the Minutes, Chairman Dochnahl declared the Minutes of <br />December 12, 1979 approved as submitted. <br />g PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />1. LANDS OF CLIFTON, File #VAR. 7066-80, 13495 Country Way (Lot #3), Peter Wright <br />Shaw, Landscape rc itect, Request for Recommendation of Approval of Variance <br />in Side Yard for Play Court: <br />Mr. Carlson discussed the above request as detailed in his staff report dated <br />January 17 and as further amplified by Mr. Clifton's letter of January 18. Other <br />matters reviewed were the development on adjacent properties, the amount of cut <br />required to build the play court, and landscape screening. <br />Commissioner Carico questioned whether at some future date the play court area could <br />be converted into a tennis court. She was told that it could not be because the play <br />court would be only one third of the size needed for a tennis court. Thereafter the <br />hearing was opened to the public discussion. <br />Peter Wri ht Shaw, Landsca e Architect 125 Universit Avenue, Palo Alto, discussed <br />t e reasons for t e size of t e court, why the court could not be diminished in size <br />or relocated, adjacent properties and how they would be affected by the court, and <br />then requested that the Commission recommend approval. <br />The public hearing was closed, and the reasons for the granting of the variance were <br />reviewed, and conditions discussed. The following motion was passed: <br />MOTION SECONDED AND PASSED UNANIMOUSLY: It was moved by Commissioner Carico and <br />seconded by Commissioner Rydell to recommend approval of the Lands of Clifton, File <br />%W #VAR. 7066-80, with conditions. <br />2. LANDS OF MORLEY, File #VAR. 7065-79, 12345 Murietta Lane, Request for Variance <br />for Tennis Court: <br />Mr. Carlson discussed the subject request as detailed in his January 17 staff report. <br />He noted that it was possible to fit a tennis court on the oroperty without a variance <br />
