date had been set). The committee was also discussing the possibility of a
neighborhood drill toward facilitating efficiency in an emergency. The
committee was also working on completing a telephone tree for the
neighborhood coordinators. The subject of a Safety Fair was raised for the
spring of 1994. Various locations were discussed including San Antonio
Shopping Center. It was agreed the committee would review different sites
and make a recommendation to the Council.
The committee structure was also addressed with the chairman noting the
importance of strengthening the committee involvement. On this subject he
noted that one of their committeemembers, Brian Guilbert, who had been
appointed to the committee in February of 1993, had missed most of the
meetings. With Council's approval, he had written a draft letter to Mr.
Guilbert stating that while they appreciated his interest they needed someone
on the committee who would be available to attend the meetings and be an
active participant.
PASSED BY CONSENSUS: To authorize the Chairman of the Safety
Committee to send a letter to Brian Guilbert concerning his status on the
Safety Committee.
The committee also asked for direction regarding safety issues brought to
their attention, i.e. requests for stop signs. It was agreed they would review
such requests and submit a recommendation to the Council. The committee
would also advise the City Manager and Director of Public Works of such
requests and receive their input. The City Manager should also be advised of
any concerns brought to the committee's attention regarding fire hazards.
Mr. Vetterlein stated that one of the goals of the committee was to attend City
Council Meetings. While Council believed this was commendable, they noted
it was not required. Council also mentioned that the Chairman of the Safety
Committee should receive agendas for the Emergency Managers Meetings,
the Los Altos Fire Protection Distict Board Meetings and copies of the
monthly fire reports from the Los Altos Fire Department.
A complete list of the Safety Committee's goals for 1993-94 is on file at Town
Hall. The committee thanked the Council for their support and noted they
were looking forward to the completion of many tasks. The Council also
thanked the Safety Committee for all of their work and contributions to the
Town.
3.
