I, Side II, 213-806 <br />Mayor Allison called the Special Meeting of the City Council to order at 3:50 p.m. <br />in the Council Chambers at Town Hall. All CO ncil:mnbers were present except <br />Councilman Rydell. Consultant Marty Tarshes and City Clerk Pat Dowd were present. <br />Ed Hering, San Jose Mercury News, was also present. <br />Marty Tarshes, consultant, presented a brief status report to the Council <br />on the recruitment process for the City Manager position. Advertisements <br />had been placed in the following publications: Jobs Available, Western Cities <br />and the International City Managers' Association Newsletter. An announcement <br />for the position would be prepared which could be approved by the Council <br />prior to appropriate distribution. <br />PASSED By CONSENSUS: To establish a Selection Committee caTprised of two <br />public service members (to be named by Mr. Tarshes), two residents of the <br />Town and Mr. Tarshes. <br />mDTION SEOagDED AND CARRIED: Moved by Dronkert, seconded by van Tamelen and <br />passed unanimously by all members present to appoint Andrew Cochran and <br />Arthur Iachenbruch to the Selection Camtittee. <br />PASSED BY CONSENSUS: Tb direct Mr. Tarshes to advise Council should he <br />receive knowledge of an appropriate candidate for the position. <br />PASSED By CONSENSUS: To direct Allison and Dronkert to work with Mr. Tarshes <br />as Council liaisons on this project. <br />W. Tarshes advised Council of the following tentative schedule: applications <br />due the end of May; midjune initial screening by committee completed; end <br />of June (two days scheduled together for convenience of applicants) completion <br />of committee and Council interviews; and appointment the beginning of July. <br />Council discussed with Mr. Tarshes the profile of the City Manager position. <br />The following issues were addressed: financial knowledge, implerentation of <br />policies, simplification of procedures, motivation of staff, good interpersonal <br />skills, cooperative interrelationships with committee members and other City <br />governments, and accessibility by the residents. <br />B.
