He introduced Ibbert Dennett, Director of Public <br />Safety and Jerry Bick, Fire Services Comnander of lbhnert Park. They `Mould <br />explain to Ccunoil how their public safety department works and answer any <br />questions Council may have. <br />Mr. Dennett gave a brief overview of their public safety department which <br />Rchnert Park has bad for approximately 17 years. The department had a full- <br />time staff of 43 people and approximately 20 volunteers. (Potnert Park has <br />a population of about 25,000.) He noted that recruitment was not a problem; <br />the diversification of fire/police appealed to many. Fludammental training <br />sessions were required for volunteers and the 'buddy system' was Toyed in <br />that a rookie was assigned to a veteran firefighter. The city contracted out <br />with an ambulance service. Mr. Dennett emphasized the basic premise of public <br />safety - one can cross train people effectively. <br />In response to several questions frcrn Council, Mr. Dennett and Mr. Bick <br />explained the cemmumication systen, the work rotation schedule and the equip- <br />ment needed. They further noted that there were continual training sessions <br />for members of the department. <br />
