CITY OJUNCIL MINUTES - August 5, 1981 <br />E. SPECIAL ORDERS: Item 2 - Request for Final Map Approval, MATADERD CREEK (continued) <br />4W MOTION SECONDED AND CARRIED: Ymed by McReynolds, seconded by Hillestad and <br />passed unanimously by all menl:ers present to adopt Resolution #1376 ordering <br />the performance of certain work. <br />PASSED BY mNSENSUS: The bids will go out as defined by the City Manager and as <br />approved by the City Attorney. <br />GENERAL ORDERS AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS: <br />1. Los Altos Library Commission - request for funding <br />Ann Throop, Chairman of the Los Altos Library Commission, addressed the Council <br />and requested $6,842 frun the Tuan in support of the libraries. She noted that <br />Los Altos had already authorized library support. This financial support was <br />needed to maintain the current level of service. <br />Barbara Campbell, County Librarian, explained the County's budget situation as <br />it related to libraries and referred to her chart entitled, 'Santa Clara County <br />Library - Distribution of Regional Payroll Budget 1981-82.' <br />Council agreed that the libraries were an essential service but did question <br />the fact that those residents of the unincorporated area would be using the <br />service, yet the County was stating thattheir general funds could not be used <br />for support. <br />4W PASSED BY CONSENSUS: To direct the Mayor to write a letter to the Board of <br />Supervisors requesting them to assume their responsibility in the financial <br />support of the libraries. <br />MOTION SECONDED AND CARRIED: Moved by Hillestad, seconded by Perkins and passed <br />unanimously by all members present to taule consideration of this item until <br />the August 19, 1981 budget study session. <br />2. Petition from residents of Page Mill Estates regarding trees <br />Mr. Carl Sorensen, 14188 Stanford Court, addressed the Council reiterating his <br />concerns expressed in the petition signed by all residents of Page Mill Estates. <br />The petition stated their concerns regarc_ing the eucalyptus trees along Arastra- <br />dero Road which, in their opinion, were creating a hazardous situation. <br />Mr. and Mrs. Keith Wadsworth, 14199 Stanford Court, also comented on the fire <br />hazard created by these trees and on the increased traffic situation at the <br />entrance to Page Mill Estates. <br />The City Manager reported that he had contacted a tree service and was waiting <br />for their estimate to remove the trees. He had also contacted Rosemarie Bednar <br />of the Palo Alto School District and she too was waiting for an estimate for <br />remval of the trees on their property. Regarding the trees on private property, <br />the City Manager noted that there was an abatment procedure and the owners would <br />be notified of the procedure. He would confer with the City Attorney as to the <br />proper notification and report back to Council at the next meeting. Perkins <br />rec=ezx1ed that a deadline be established for ccapletion of this project - not <br />later than mid-October. <br />-4- <br />
