II, 001-540 <br />Mayor Nystrom called the Adjourned Meeting of the City Council to order at 4:45 p.m. <br />in the Council Chambers of Town Hall. <br />A. RDLL CALL AMID PLEDGE OF ALLE(IANCE: <br />Present: Mayor Nystrom, Councilmenbers Hillestad, McReynolds, Perkins and Proft <br />Absent: None <br />Staff: City Manager Robert Crowe, City Attorney Frank Gillio and. Deputy <br />City Clerk Pat Dawd <br />Press: Florence Pallakoff, Los Altos Town Crier; Mary Schmich, Peninsula <br />Times Tribune; Fd Herring, San Jose Mercury <br />B. PUBLIC SAFETY REPORT: <br />The City Manager presented the Ad Hoc Public Safety Study Committee's report <br />to the Council. Among the mmiusions of the Committee were the following: <br />1) the Ins Altos Fire Protection District be kept intact; 2) District obtain <br />irrevocable autonomy with City Council as representatives sitting as members of <br />the Commission along with two unincorporated members. The existing revenue <br />sources be maintained. <br />Councidmembers then discussed the Ommittee's recommendations. While agreeing <br />that the District should remain intact and the commission should be autonomous, <br />Councilman Perkins questioned whether it was the appropriate time to designate <br />win would be on the commission. <br />Robert Cheney, 10737 Magdalena, addressed the Council in support of keeping the <br />District intact. <br />Walter Schulze, La Loma Drive, agreed control should be in the District but <br />questioned whether it should new be stipulated who would be on the Gwmission. <br />x� <br />MOTION SECONDED AMID CARRIED: Moved by McReynolds, seconded by Hillestad and <br />passed by the following roll call vote to reccm end to the Santa Clara County <br />Board of Supervisors that the Los Altos Fire Protection District remain intact <br />with control delegated to a seven -member commission, consisting of five City <br />Council members and two residents to be appointed from the unincorporated portion <br />of the District. Commission members would serve four-year terms with vacancies <br />on Council seats filled by new Councilmembers. Further all current sources of <br />revenues will be retained within the District. <br />AYES: Mayor Nystrom, Comcilmemubers Hillestad, McReynolds and Proft <br />NOES: Councilman Perkins <br />
