I, 670 -End, Side I, Tr. 2, 001-354 <br />Mayor Keith Brown called the Regular Meeting of the City Council to order at 7:31 PM <br />In the Council Chambers of Town Hall. <br />A. ROLL CALL 8 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: <br />Present: Mayor Brown and Councilmembers Cheney, Hillestad, Proft and McReynolds <br />Absent: None <br />Staff: City Manager Robert Crowe, City Attorney Frank Gillio, City Engineer <br />Alexander Russell, Engineer/Planner John Markl, Commissioner Dochnahl <br />for the Planning Commission, Deputy City Clerk Susan Buttler <br />Press: Michele Jurich, Los Altos Town Crier 8 Sharon Noguchi, Palo Alto Times <br />B. CONSENT CALENDAR: <br />Following a statement by Mayor Brown concerning Council's decision to hold <br />tonight's meeting, Mr. Larry Giller requested that the entire Consent Calendar <br />be removed as Improper. <br />Mr. L. Giller, Vinedo Lane, objected to the timing of this meeting, citing It <br />as an affront to those people who observe the Jewish faith. He further stated <br />that the City Manager had been notified on Monday of the conflict between this <br />City Council meeting and the celebration of Yom Kippur. <br />Mayor Brown reiterated Council's position regarding separation of church and <br />state and emphasized it was not their intention to slight any resident. Council - <br />member Cheney stated he did not concur with Council's decision and, since he <br />felt tonight's agenda Items could be held over, then made a motion to adjourn <br />this meeting to Monday. Motion died for lack of a second. At approximately <br />7:45 PM, Councilmember Cheney left the meeting. <br />Mayor Brown requested that the Minutes of September 7,1977 be removed for <br />separate consideration for the following change on Page 6: <br />MOTION SECONDED AND CARRIED: It was then moved by Councilman McReynolds, secon- <br />ded by Councilman Proft and carried unanimously to amend Condition 21: Reduce <br />the total number of lots in the subdivision by one lot, to a maximum of 26 lots. <br />Combine Lots 26 and 27 Into one large lot, adjusting the lot lines on Lots 16 <br />thru 27. Minor adjustments to Saddle Court may be made as deemed necessary. <br />Mr. G. Dal, Applicant, asked that his Variance request be removed, with discus- <br />sion following on the merits on Staff recommendation for a retaining wall versus <br />his desire for structural decking over a Ingress/egress easement. It was deter- <br />mined to leave the conditions as they were. <br />4 MOTION SECONDED AND CARRIED: It was moved by Councilman McReynolds, seconded by <br />�r Councilwoman Hillestad and passed unanimously to approve Lands of Dai, VAR #7043-77 <br />subject to conditions as recommended by the Planning Commission. <br />
