CITY COUNCIL MINUTES - February 4, 197< <br />` ITEMS RE,UVED FROM THE CONSENT CALENDAR (Cont'd): <br />IMM OF SAVI" - REQUEST FOR VARIANCE (Cont'd): <br />Mrs. Saviano stated that seventeen neighbors had been notified of their <br />request for a variance for the installation of a tennis court, and there <br />had been no objections, verbal or written concerning the matter. She noted <br />that the neighbor above her had expressed concern regarding the retaining <br />wall, and the variance would preclude having, to cut into that hill, which <br />was his main concern. She felt that all six requirements listed in the <br />Municipal Code for the obtaining of a variance had been met. <br />Council discussed alternatives for resolving this appeal, giving the appli- <br />cant the choice of going back to the Variance & Permit commission fora re- <br />hearing on the matter with a full body who could act m the request; going <br />directly to the Planning Commission; postponing the matter until it could <br />be heard before the entire Council; or hearing the matter this evening. <br />cowdiscussion <br />eiscgrand <br />Mrs. e <br />oncensusas ohear thmatter thevennin,with the consent of the <br />applicants. <br />Town Planner Ken Pastrof presented an overview map of the subject property, <br />indicating the boundaries of the proposed tennis court, and the small area <br />t which, at a later time, might be utilized as a site for a swinming Pool. <br />6W lie noted the only concern expressed by surrounding property owners was from <br />I7r. Abrahms over possible grading into the existing bank and the sound <br />carrying uphill. <br />Commissioner Schick stated that, at the time the request was before the <br />Commission, two of the members had suggested that if the variance were <br />granted a stipulation be placed on the hours the court mi&al be used. <br />Mfrs. Saviano stated that the concern over possible noise and lighting was <br />raised at the original meeting; that the final concensus of neighbors was <br />there would be no objections since there would be no night lighting. Mr- <br />Saviano also stated that he would work with a landscape planner to insure <br />a proper visual buffer for the proposed court. <br />Speaking from the Floor: <br />Mrs. J. Carico Chairman Plannin Commission: Stated that, because the <br />Variance & ermit Comnussion consist o ee Planning Commissioners, two <br />members made a quorum. <br />Mrs. L. Gould Ortega ]hive: Requested that Councilwoman Miller speak more <br />erectly into er mtcmphone because she found it difficult to hear her at <br />times on the tapes of the meetings. <br />rs.
