CITY COUNCIL
TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS
MINUTES OF A REGULAR ADJOURNED MEETING
May 30, 1972
Reel 44 Side 2 Track 2 545 -End
Side 1 Track 2 00-493
Deputy Mayor Davey called the regular adjourned meeting of the City Council of
the Town of Los Altos Hills to order at 7:45 P.M. in the Council Chambers of
the Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills, with the following members
answering roll call: Present: Councilmen Grabowski, Kubby and Miller and
Deputy Mayor Davey. Absent: Mayor Helgesson.
SCHEDULED ITEM NO. 1:
PRESENTATION RE: USE OF LANDS OWNED BY THE PALO ALTO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT.
Mr. Don Hammond of the Palo Alto Unified School District stated that at the
time the Mid Peninsula was rapidly expanding and no restraints were being con-
sidered on development, the school district planning projected, and acquired
lands for, future school sites. He noted this anticipated development subse-
quently did not occur. Also, coupled with the trend towards smaller families
which further reduced projected enrollment, the school district has concluded
their three parcels of undeveloped land within the Town of Los Altos Hills to
be in excess of their needs. These parcels are:
10.676 acres off Black Mountain Road.
4.77 acres at Page Mill and Arastradero Roads.
61.743 acres at Page Mill and Alexis Roads.
Mr. Hammond stated that the Law now requires that when the school district has
no plans to develop their land, it is taxable and they therefore must now sell
it. He noted this presentation was to advise the Town, before the Board acts
on May 319 1972 to take this action, to ascertain if any Town plans might chang
their thinking on its future need.
Council discussion ensued. It was noted that the parcel at Page Mill and Aras-
tradero would be a desirable acquisition for the Town. Also if the Regional
Park and Open Space District which is on the November ballot passes, the large
parcel would be a desirable acquisition. Mr. Hammond stated the school dis-
trict would expect to sell the lands at fair market value.
Council concurred that they would hope the Palo Alto Unified School District
could delay sale of the land pending outcome of the November election. Counci.7
appreciation was extended to Mr. Hammond for the opportunity to comment on the
future use of these lands.
PRESENTATIONS FROM THE FLOOR:
1. Commissioner Don Spencer reported on the County Open Space Element dis-
cussed at the last Planning Policy Committee meeting. Council concurred to
agenda this matter for the June 5, 1972 meeting.
ADJOURN TO STUDY SESSION AT 8:55 P.M.
1. Study of 1972-73 Budget.
RECONVENE AT 10:35 TO ADJOURN TO PERSONNEL AND SALARY SESSION.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, Deputy Mayor Davey reconvened
the meeting at 12:05 A.M. solely to adjourn to the next regular meeting at
7:45 P.M. on Monday, June 5, 1972.
,$mKBK
Cit
City Clerk-TreAlAer
Town of Los Altos Hills
