NEW BUSINESS: <br />1. Election of Mayor. <br />ACTION: - <br />-- Because the Deputy Mayor is absent tonight <br />I move that for the purposes of the present <br />meeting, Councilman Fowle be appointed Deputy <br />Mayor pro':tem. <br />MOTION: Bowler; SECOND: Henley; VOTE: .Passed -unanimously. <br />ACTION; <br />I move that the Office of Mayor be declared <br />vacant and that the Deputy Mayor pro tem be <br />authorized to assume the chair as Mayor pro <br />tem pending a meeting of the full Council at <br />which nominations for the Office of Mayor will <br />be received and acted upon. <br />MOTION: Bowler; SECOND: Henley <br />Councilmen Bowler, Henley and Fowle each read a written <br />statement clarifying his stand in supporting the foregoing <br />Motion, each sharingthe view that the element of confidence <br />- <br />does not presently exist between the Council and its Mayor. <br />Comments from the Floor were heard from the following <br />residents: <br />Messrs. Kirk, Hawley, Eastman, Watson, Janssen, <br />Towle, Cathcart, Jones, Haines, Cowie, George, <br />Hibner, Flood, Boyd, Pfeiffer, Hall, Young and <br />Mesdames Weisbart., Benson and Spangenberg. <br />Mr. R. Towle, spokesman for the Los Altos Hills Association, <br />reported on their investigation. Mr. Towle suggested that <br />the Question be called, the Agenda carried out, and the <br />meeting adjourned; then a Chairman could be appointed from - <br />the Floor to hold an open discussion with all parties <br />concerned, with the understanding this would not be a <br />Council action. <br />The Question was called. <br />ROLL CALL: AYES: Bowler, Henley, Deputy Mayor pro tem Fowle <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Aiken, Mayor Clayton <br />-3- <br />
