. <br /> . •' I ! <br /> RESOLUTION NO.' 15-84 <br /> Resolution <br /> Regarding Measure "A" : A Measure for <br /> the Preservation and Maintenance of De Anza <br /> and Foothill Colleges <br /> • WHEREAS maintaining the quality of educational resources <br /> like Foothill and De Anza Colleges is important to the.welfare of <br /> the citizens of the City of Los Altos Hills ; and <br /> WHEREAS years 'of deteriorating financial resources have prompted <br /> the Foothill-De Anza Community College District to seek special funding <br /> to preserve the standards of excellence of Foothill and De Anza Colleges; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board-of Trustees of the Foothill-De Anza Community <br /> College District has called an election for April 10, 1984, to submit to <br /> the electors Measure A, entitled "A Measure for the Preservation and <br /> Maintenance of De Anza and Foothill Colleges," which proposes that a <br /> special tax be levied in the District; and <br /> WHEREAS the proceeds from the proposed special tax will be used - <br /> exclusively for the limited purposes of buying necessary laboratory, <br /> technical, scientific and other equipment for better transfer and job <br /> training programs, purchasing library books and repairing, maintaining, <br /> and improving college buildings; and <br /> WHEREAS the Board of Trustees of the District can reduce or repeal <br /> the tax if additional funds are found but may not under any circumstances <br /> increase the tax; and <br /> WHEREAS the tax must be returned to the voters at least every four <br /> years and may be repealed by a simple majority vote; and <br /> WHEREAS State funding proposals for community colleges and' the <br /> imposition of tuition on community college students will not meet the <br /> accumulated maintenance, repair, library acquisition and equipment needs <br /> of Foothill and De Anza Colleges; <br /> NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL RESOLVES that it endorses Measure A <br /> on the April 10, 1984 ballot and encourages voters to vote yes on <br /> Measure A. <br />
