Y.LL1F.^919C1 <br />Hl6) 339-6999 <br />comments to the City Council for approval. <br />If any such project will damage such Historical <br />Site, permission to proceed will be conditioned <br />upon making provision for adequate protection of <br />the Historical Site. <br />Sec. 9-6.04. Means of Protecting Historical Sites. <br />Acceptable means of reducing the impact of a <br />project on a Historical Site shall, depending upon <br />specific circumstances, include the following in <br />descending order of preference. <br />(a) Protection of the Site as part of a park, <br />monument, shrine or other controlled area. <br />(b) Leaving the Site in its natural condition. <br />(c) Burial or other non-destructive covering <br />of the Site. <br />(d) Excavation of the Site by archaeologists <br />acceptable to the Town, with all materials and <br />information recovered remaining the property of <br />the Town. <br />Sec. 9-6.05. Historical Site Policies. <br />It shall be the policy of the Town to encourage <br />property owners and developers to adhere to the spirit <br />of the foregoing provisions as well as the compatible <br />policies established by the National Environmental <br />Policy Act and all other applicable federal and state <br />laws. It shall further be the policy of the Town to <br />move vigorously to acquire and to protect Historical <br />Sites important to its history, in accordance with <br />a master plan to be designed by the Town Historian <br />in consultation with the Town Council and with <br />appropriate specialists." <br />-2- <br />
