400 (400 <br />-2- <br />No more trenches shall be opened than can be <br />properly and completely bacYfi.11ed in one (1) day. No gars <br />than seven hundred (fCW ) of trench :hall be open at any i -r..! <br />on any project unless authorized by the Town Engineer. <br />One (1) traffic lane shall be kept open in safe <br />condition at all times. Adequate warning and .regulatory signs <br />and other safety measures sh;.11 be taken at all times to protect <br />the public who may or must be present in the area where work <br />is being performed. Complete closure of all traffic lanes <br />may be made at the discretion of and in accordance with the <br />plans for detours approved by the Town Engineer. Twenty-four (24) <br />hours advance notice must be filed with t`.e Town Engineer and <br />Town Clerk, stating the road to be closed, the limits and <br />approximate duration of closure. Such agencies must also be <br />notified immediately upon reopening of the road to emergency <br />vehicles. <br />Road Commissioner shall be supplied at all times <br />with the names and telephone numbers of at least two (2) <br />persons in charge of or responsible for the work subject to <br />$ermit who can be reached for emergency work twenty-four <br />(24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. <br />(2) Backfill. Backfill in all trenches shall be <br />attained by any type of tamping capable of producing the <br />compaction requirements, except that no water tamping will be <br />permitted within two feet of finish grade. Backfill shall be <br />compacted to a relative compaction of 95% for the entire deptb. <br />of the trench. Untreated base material conforming to Sectior. <br />16 of the State Standard Specifications shall be placed along <br />the entire trench section with a minimum thickness of 12 incb.er <br />and compacted to 950/6 relative compaction. <br />The City reserves the right to make as many compac- <br />tion tests as it deems necessary to a certain conformance to <br />the compaction requirements. The cost of such tests shall be <br />borne by the persons performing the excavation in, along, <br />and across roads. Upon completion of the backfill and road <br />base, but prior to placing surfacing, the pavement adjacent <br />to the work shall be thoroughly cleaned to the satisfaction <br />of the Town Road Commissioner. A power broom shall be used if <br />so required by the Road Commissioner. <br />(3) Restoration of Pavement: After compaction tests <br />have been made on the trench section to the satisfaction of the <br />Road Commissioner, pavement shall be restored as follows: <br />a. The untreated road base shall be given one (1) <br />coat of SC -1 road oil applied at the rate of <br />0.25 gallons per squre yard. <br />b. The entire trench shall be paved with hot plant <br />mix surfacing 2%z inches in thickness after <br />rolling. The plant mix shall conform to the <br />requirements of Section 20 of the Standard <br />State Specifications Type B mix. <br />c. After the pavement has been rolled, the surface <br />shall be treated with a fog seal coat applied <br />at the rate of .05 gallons per square yard. <br />(4) Miscellaneous. The City may, as a condition <br />to granting an encroaclent permit, require a field inspectior. <br />with representatives of both the applicant and the Road <br />Commissioner's office. A description of the condition of <br />the existing pavement and shoulders will be filed with the <br />-2- <br />
