• • <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 756 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN. OF LOS ALTOS HILLS DE- <br /> CLARING ITS OPPOSITION TO SENATE BILL NO. 1786 <br /> WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 1786 , if enacted, would prohibit general <br /> law cities such as Los Altos Hills from licensing for revenue purposes <br /> any kind of business in such cities, including shows, exhibitions and <br /> games, if such business does not maintain a business office within the <br /> city and derives less than $10, 000 in gross receipts annually within <br /> the city; and <br /> WHEREAS, if enacted Senate Bill No. 1786 would constitute a <br /> serious incursion into the powers of home rule heretofore granted to <br /> general law cities, including the right to license businesses carried <br /> on within a city for purposes of revenue as well as regulation; and <br /> WHEREAS, the loss of revenue to general law cities which would <br /> result from the enactment of Senate Bill No. 1786 would have serious <br /> consequences upon a city' s ability to raise revenue to perform <br /> municipal services in view of limitationsheretofore imposed upon <br /> the right to levy taxes by general law cities, and the continuing <br /> upward spiral of inflation, <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: <br /> 1. The City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills, Santa Clara <br /> County, California, hereby declares its oppositionto the enactment <br /> of Senate Bill No. 1786 and urges the State Legislature to reject it. <br /> 2. The City Clerk be and he hereby is authorized and directed <br /> to transmit certified copies of the within resolution to each member <br />
