�^ r <br /> • <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 701 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN <br /> OF LOS ALTOS HILLS OPPOSING THE CLOSURE OF <br /> THE STATE HOSPITALS FOR THE MENTALLY ILL AND <br /> THE MENTALLY RETARDED <br /> WHEREAS, the State of California has adopted the policy of caring for the <br /> mentally ill and mentally retarded in local community programs and has started <br /> to implement this policy by the closing of state mental hospitals; and <br /> WHEREAS, such implementation has started before the effect of such a <br /> change is known; and <br /> WHEREAS, substitute facilities and services are not available in the <br /> communities; and <br /> WHEREAS, present research does not indicate any reduction in mentally <br /> retarded patients; and <br /> WHEREAS, for the above-mentioned reasons, this stated action has and will <br /> result in serious impact upon the patients and the various communities to the <br /> detriment of both. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the Town of Los Altos <br /> Hills that it hereby urges the Governor and the Legislature of the State of <br /> California to stop efforts to close state hospitals until pilot programs are <br /> conducted to determine the impact of such a change, the resulting feasibility as <br /> to actually implementing the change and, if feasible, the method of transition <br /> which will cause the least detrimental effect to the full care of these patients. <br /> I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a <br /> resolution duly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council <br /> on the 4th day of April , 1973, by the following roll call vote: <br /> AYES: Councilmen Davey, Grabowski , Kubby, Miller and Mayor Helgesson <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None APPROVED: <br /> <br /> Mayor <br /> ATTEST :__,,,____ <br /> City Clerk <br />
