(2) Due to the planned development of commercial sites <br /> near the proposed site , by other entities, the Town, by approving <br /> this land use, could plan a center within the Town. (3) It would <br /> bring tax revenue to the Town. <br /> ^uestions were answered by Mr. Atkinson relative to the type and <br /> design of the apartments planned, and the type of architecture <br /> planned for the shopping center. <br /> Mr. Nestor Barrett, Planning Consultant for the Town, commented <br /> that he had discussed the proposed land use with Mr. Atkinson. He <br /> further stated that the Town should make a decision relative to <br /> land use, and that it should be made prior to the adoption of the <br /> Master Plan. <br /> The Mayor commented that although the Town was incorporated with <br /> the idea of no commercial enterprises, the freeway through the <br /> Town will effect some changes, and that the Council will have to <br /> study the matter. <br /> Commissioner Mellquist, Chairman of the Planning Commission, sug- <br /> gested that the matter be discussed in an open meeting and the <br /> opinions and views of the Townspeople considered. <br /> Mr. Atkinson stated that he would be happy to present a tentative <br /> plan with sketches and color slides to the Planning Commission. <br /> ACTION: <br /> That Mr. Atkinson' s proposalbe referred to the Planning Com- <br /> mission. <br /> MOTION: Clayton; SECOND : Henley; <br /> Mrs. Paul B. Hunter sug'ested that the Planning Consultant be pre- <br /> sent and that the economics of the idea be discussed at the meet- <br /> ing. <br /> Mr. Villiam D. Geer suggested to Mr. Atkinson that the two plans <br /> (the shopping center and the apartments) be presented separately: <br /> VOTE: Passed unanimously <br /> 2. Henry C. Claussen - Land Use. <br /> Letter from Hr. Claussen, dated July 23, 1959, requested that the <br /> Council consider rezoning the area on El Monte near the proposed <br /> Foothill College and the Freeway. <br /> Mr. Claussen was not present. <br /> The Mayor stated that he would acknowledge Mr. Claussen's letter. <br /> 3 <br />
