-2 - <br />ACTION: <br />That the Council reconsider the action taken in the meeting of <br />September 16, 1957 by which they approved the placi of a stop <br />sign on the down hill lane of Stonebrook (Northbound at <br />Oneonta. <br />MOTION: Mayor Treat; SECOND: Fowle <br />ROLL CALL: AYES: Mayor Treat, Bledsoe, Fowle, Rothwell <br />NOES: Hoefler <br />OLD BUSINESS: <br />1. Reconsideration of C uncil Action on Selptember 16,.x. Re: Stop <br />s gni on one rook. <br />Mayor Treat asked Vice -Mayor Rothwell to preside, thus, vacating <br />the Chair in order to enter into the discussion. <br />Attorney Bullis confirmed the fact that the Council could recon- <br />sider this matter. <br />Councilman Rothwell stated that having been absent from the meet- <br />ing when the Council approved the establishment of stop signs on <br />Stonebrook at Oneonta, and not knowing what was discussed at this <br />meeting, he felt that if other evidence is available or if there <br />are other alternatives the hould bbe_presented and considered. <br />Mayor Treat Mr. David Kay, Representative of the <br />National Safety Council, San Jose and from Mr. Smeltzer, County <br />Traffic Engineer.1 000ggave evidence of not approving of <br />a stop sign at the intersect on in question. <br />Mr. Bledsoe, after having taken notes on the content of the <br />letters read by Mayor Treat, proceeded to refute each segment of <br />the letters. <br />Attorney Bullis entered into the discussion, disagreeing with the <br />affirmative members of the Council, and by quoting portions of the <br />Vehicle Code of 1957 to substaniate his statements. <br />Chief Litchfield gave a resume of a radar check in the area of <br />Stonebrook and Oneonta, opposing the action by'the Council. <br />Letter from Road Commissioner Gardner was read stating his reasons <br />for approval. <br />The letter will be filed. <br />Road Commissioner Brittain commented against havinj stop signs <br />in this area, and quoted from the Traffic Engineer s Code Book <br />explaining his disapproval. <br />
