HomeMy WebLinkAbout39-17 RESOLUTION 39-17 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS APPROVING CHANGES TO THE RECREATION SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION WHEREAS, the job description for the Recreation Specialist job description was last updated on July 20, 2016; and WHEREAS, the position has recently become vacant; and WHEREAS, the job description was reviewed and changes are identified to reflect current departmental needs, as part of the recruitment process; and WHEREAS,the job description attached as Exhibit A reflect the changes; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills does hereby resolve to approve and adopt changes to the Recreation Specialist Job Description as stated in Exhibit B. The above and foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills at a regular meeting held on the 20th day of July 2017 by the following vote: AYES: Waldeck, Radford, Corrigan, Spreen, Wu NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: None BY: / "141.;--/ _ Gary Waldeck, Mayor ATTEST: - Deborah Padovan, City Clerk Resolution 39-17 Page 1 EXHIBIT A TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS RECREATION SPECIALIST Reports to: Community Services Supervisor FLSA: Non-exempt Supervises: N/A DESCRIPTION: Under the general direction of the Community Services Supervisor, this position performs a wide variety of assignments including the marketing, development and management of the Town's Recreation Programs and Community Events. The Recreational Community Services Specialist will be responsible for the daily operation and implementation of all aspects of the Town's contract service as the staff liaison of the Youth Commission and promotion of Parks and Recreation activities. This position will perform a variety of special projects as assigned by the Community Services Supervisor. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to: • Serve as the staff liaison to Youth Commission • Manage independent contractor agreements, rosters and payment • Assist with coordinating Town sponsored events • Outreach to local schools, businesses and residents • Promote Donor Wall project • Recommend and assist in the implementation of departmental goals and objectives • Manage social media and corporate accounts i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor, Instagram, etc. • Increase community involvement at Town events • Develop and explore different avenues of community outreach • Develop and manage publicity and promotion, prepare and distribute marketing materials including brochures, flyers, banners, promotional collateral and event schedules • Public contact includes answering general inquiries • Provide assistance in the preparation and administration of the Los Altos Hills Parks and Recreation department annual budget Recreation Specialist Job Class Specifications—Adopted July 20,2017 Resolution 39-17 Page 2 • Identify and coordinate opportunities to share resources with other governmental agencies MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Abilities to: • Exhibit a high level of self-motivation; self-starter • Encompass leadership skills and enthusiasm for community based programs, events and activities • Demonstrate superior organizational and planning skills • Exhibit a high level of self-motivation • Strong sense of time management • Work independently and as part of a team • Communicate clearly and concisely,both orally and in writing • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, volunteer committees, outside professionals and other employees • Highly proficient in Adobe Suite Education and Experience Guideline: Any combination of education and experience e that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for a Recreation and Community Services Specialist. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess a bachelor's degree and one years of recreation, event planning and/or community services experiences. Required Licenses or Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California Driver's License. Possession of or ability to obtain the following certifications may be required depending on assignment: CPR for the Professional Rescuer,Automatic External Defibrillator, Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP), and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Working Conditions: May be required to attend to service issues and attend meeting after normal business hours. This position requires field work and interacts with the public. Physical demands: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the Town, and have availability to work off-hours shifts or events as required; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 40 pounds; mobility to lead groups in activities involving steep or rough terrain; ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
