AN URGENCY ORDINANCE OF
THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS
AMENDING TITLE 11 REGARDING LANDMARK PRESERVATION
WHEREAS, the Town is now considering designating several
historical properties as .landmarks; and
WHEREAS, Title 11 regarding landmark designation and
preservation is unclear in certain respects; and .
WHEREAS, the provisions of this ordinance need to go into
effect immediately to protect the public health, safety and
welfare so that landmarks will be adequately preserved;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the Town of Los Altos
Hills does ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. AMENDMENT OF CODE. Section 11-1.09 of Title 11
(Landmark Designation and Preservation) of the Los Altos Hills
Municipal Code is hereby amended to read:
11-1. 09. No person shall carry out or cause to be
carried out on a designated landmark any material
change in exterior. appearance through alteration,
construction, relocation, exterior painting or
demolition, without obtaining a landmark alteration
permit from the City Council.
SECTION 2. AMENDMENT OF CODE. Section 11-1. 16 of Title 11
(Landmark Designation and Preservation) of the Los Altos Hills
Municipal Code is hereby amended to read:
11-1. 16. Without excluding any penalty for
violation of the Municipal Code, any material change
made by any person in the exterior appearance of any
designated landmark through alteration, construction,
exterior painting or demolition without the issuance of
a landmark alteration permit having first been obtained
shall be, and is hereby declared to be unlawful and a
public nuisance, and shall be abated in the method
provided for in Section 9-5. 1106 of this Municipal
Code.
SECTION 3. SEVERABILITY. If any part of this ordinance is
held to be invalid or inapplicable to any situation by a court of
competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the
validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance or the
applicability of' this ordinance to other situations.
SECTION 4. FINDING; EFFECTIVE DATE. The City Council finds
that there is a current and immediate threat to the public

health, safety and welfare of the Town, if Title 11 is not
clarified so that landmarks will be adequately preserved.
Therefore, this urgency ordinance shall be effective immediately
upon its adoption.
This ordinance was passed at a regular meeting of the City
Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills on February 17, 1993, on a
four-fifths vote of all council members, as follows:
