RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS
ORDERING AND CALLING A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE
CONSOLIDATED WITH THE GENERAL ELECTION ON MARCH 7, 2000 FOR THE
PURPOSE OF ELECTING A CITY COUNCILMEMBER, AND ORDERING THE
ELECTION CONSOLIDATED WITH THE REGULARLY ESTABLISHED ELECTION TO
BE HELD ON THE SAME DATE
The City Council of the Town of Los Altos Hills, does RESOLVE, as follows:
1. Calling Special Election. Pursuant to the provisions of Section 36512 of the
Elections Code of the State of California, a special municipal election is hereby called and
ordered to be held in the Town of Los Altos Hills on Tuesday, March 7, 2000, for the
purpose of electing an eligible person to hold the office of Councilmember, the term of
which expires in November 2000.
2. Registrar of Voters Services. Pursuant to Section 10002 of the Elections
Code, the City Council hereby requests the Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa
Clara ("Board of Supervisors") to make available the services of the Registrar of Voters for
the purpose of providing the usual services necessary in the conduct of a consolidated
Municipal Election, including the provision of election supplies and voters' pamphlets.
3. Consolidation with General Election. Pursuant to Section 10403 of the
Elections Code, the City Council hereby requests the Board of Supervisors to order the
consolidation of the election hereby called within the Regularly Established Election to be
conducted within the boundaries of the Town of Los Altos Hills on March 7, 2000. The City
Council further consents to and orders said consolidation.
Upon consolidation, the consolidated election shall be held, elected officers
appointed, voting precincts designated, ballots printed, polls opened and closed, ballots

counted and returned, returns canvassed, and all other proceedings conducted in
connection with the election under the regulations of the Registrar of Voters of the County
of Santa Clara, in accordance with the provisions of the law regulating elections so
consolidated.
4. Posting and Publication of Notice of Election. The City Clerk shall cause
copies of a Notice of Special Election to be posted in three (3) public places in the Town
of Los Altos Hills and shall cause a copy of the Notice to be published once in the Town
Crier, a newspaper of general circulation in the Town, within the time and manner specified
in California Elections Code Section 12101.
5. Special Election Procedures and Policies. Pursuant to Sections 10228 and
13307 of the Election Code, the City Council approves and adopts the following policies
and procedures concerning the special election to be held on March 7, 2000.
a. Each candidate shall be permitted to submit a Candidate's Statement of no
more than 200 words.
b. Candidates shall be exempt from charges for the cost of preparation and
mailing of said Candidate's Statements.
C. Candidates shall be exempt from payment of any filing fee.
