Subject:Weale's Landscaping Project and the Planning Commission Meeting on 5-Mar
Hi Cynthia-
Pm Susan Stulz(married to Cris Schiebold, who was at the February Planning Commission meeting) and live
on Sherlock Road, next to Sylvia and Howard Weale. I was able to meet with Sylvia last Saturday morning,
and talked with her about these two issues, with respect to their landscape plan:
• I wanted to understand exactly how they were going to block/shore up the construction driveway, before they add the couple of
shrubs in the plan. I didn't get a very good explanation on that one. Sylvia said that Howard was handling more of the
landscaping project. However, she did say that they intended to use some of the soil that is on the flat area to "build up"the gap
(see my photos below). This was not clear to me from their landscape plan;I suggested their landscaper show an elevation view
on the drawings. My bottom line here is that I think that gap should be completely built back up,so no vehicles can go into the
flat area anymore.
• Cris and I are requesting some type of screening around their 2 massive air conditioning units on the southwest side of the house.
We anticipate they will be quite loud during the summer, when we typically keep our windows open, especially at nigh(our
bedroom is on the side of our house facing these units). Sylvia seemed amenable. There is no plantings at all in the plan right
now. Sylvia mentioned that they are trying to use native plants, which is fine with me. But I asked her to use 15 gallon, not 5
gallon, for this location,as natives grow so slowly.I think it would take at least 3 plants, maybe more.
Cynthia, one of the reasons I am especially concerned about the restoring the construction driveway(first issue above)is because I
understand that the Weale's would still like to add a pool sometime in the future. Sylvia shared that the septic lines were especially designed
to allow for a pool,to the northeast of the house.I would like to go on record to say that Cris and I strongly oppose permitting a pool for the
Weales,because:
1. The Weale's project has already been granted variances,by being allowed to be built too close to the road. This was in spite of
residents from 4 houses on the street attending the Planning Commission meeting and speaking out against approval during the
initial review..
1
2. This neighborhood has had to put up with 12+years of construction on this project, with the noise, disruption, and frustration that
have gone with it.Cris and I personally have had to spend many, many hours dealing with their project as they have crossed
property lines, cut our trees, and moved soil onto our property.Plus the neighborhood is facing ongoing issues with road repair and
maintenance, exacerbated by the ridiculous duration of this project.Frankly,we are tired of dealing with it.We do not want to go
through this again with the construction of a swimming pool.
I am planning on attending the meeting on Thursday,to make sure that the Weale's have taken my concerns into account Please let me know
if there is anything else that you would suggest I do about the landscape issues and/or the potential pool project.
Thanks for your time.
Susan
