4.P & R Budget request to Council: P&R Budget Wish List Items – Break into Long Term and Short
Term: The committee discussed our wish list of items for the next fiscal year, which include capitol
improvement work to be done on 18 paddocks at Westwind Community Barn, promotion of the newly
installed outdoor fitness equipment at Purissima Park and building programming around these, as
well as adding some shade with trees and tenting for the tot lot at the park, Future community events
like a piano concert at town hall, the joint cities softball event, additions to Family Game Night,
additional Senior Programming, Possible funding for our Stay Safe Stay Active Sr. lunches. Promotion
of the new events and possible addition to the Town newsletter, which may require additional
printing or postage. Reactivation of our Town Neighborhood Network program with either Fire
District funds or Town funds or both. This may require hiring a part time person to meet with
residents and fill the vacant Mike Sanders role until a person hired by the fire district can re assume
this role. We would also like to use the Joint venture with Los Altos, at the Village Green, to promote
LAH P&R programs and identify more LAH participants from the community. We also would like to
make a plea to expand the Town Hall campus so that we may have access to additional classroom
facilities for programming and meetings. We discussed possible funding amounts and determined
that it would be a minimum of $6,000 in discretionary funding that might be required, in addition to
the capitol funds for improvements up at the barn and at Town Hall. It would be helpful to add to
Sarah’s ability to sign for items up to, but not exceeding $6000. This must go to Council in time for
their vote next month, to add it in to their budget. Sarah is authorized to report our findings to them.
5.Sub-Committee Reports:
a.Barn Update: Sarah reported the bids came back too expensive to upgrade the 18 paddocks at the
barn so they will reject all bids and start over with a smaller scope. She is working with Torie.
b.Garden Update: Ingrid reported that she tried to make contact with Malika and Vic of Corbetta Lane
but neither had responded by the time of this meeting. She will continue to follow up. We would
like them to become Associate members of this committee and help spearhead the Garden in Town.
We also discussed checking with Foothill College and possibly setting a meeting with Sarah, Scott
and Kathy to present to them. Craig Murray also said we could look into churches as a possible
location and he will follow up. Also talk to Hidden Villa if we paid for water.
c.Sr. Programming: Karen Lemes – Sarah reported a lost of all the new programs for Seniors in the
guide. Tech for Seniors, Stay Safe/Stay Active, Sr. Walks etc.
d.Preschool Programming: Nina Sutaria reported she will try to invite some new people to the next
P&R meeting to interest them in joining the committee and spearheading the Preschool
programming. She will also collect names at the Town Picnic.
e.Fall Activity Guide Preview – Sarah deferred discussion to the next meeting. Submission deadline is
June after the picnic.
f.Joint Town Events: Softball game 8/18 update: Liza/Nick/Sarah reported that this is going forward
with banners up July 23. The YC will help with concessions. Start thinking about teams. Should be
50% women. May get T-shirts. Sarah also reported on the Joint Town sponsorship of the Village
Green. This requires a contribution of $2500 (1/10th of what LA is putting in) We can use this venu
to schedule music and promote LAH programs and show good will between communities.
g.Family Campout update: Sarah reported this is a go. We may rent/borrow Los Altos Movie screen
before purchasing our own. We need to see how it is set up and what features we need. This event
needs to be more toddler-friendly with changing stations and more activities for kids and healthier
foods. The breakfast meal should be more robust with more healthy options not just pancakes. Add
fruit and sausage and scrambled eggs. Discuss more at next meeting.
