Talked to the committee about challenges of using the Teepee at the top of Byrne Preserve during Ohlone Camp. The committee discussed whether or not to continue to use the iconic Tee Pee, in light of the recent fire in Byrne Preserve. The fire had nothing to do with the Tee Pee or our programming, however it posed a potential safety hazard. As a result, we opted to cancel the Tee Pee erection for the summer because of dry conditions and possible fire danger. The Committee decided unanimously to continue to use the Tee Pee in the future, however, because of nighttime vandalism, the Committee asked that the Town use additional mitigation measures including installation of a motion sensor camera and motion sensor lighting, as well as request increased code enforcement by the Town sheriff and fire district patrols. The week the Tee Pee is erected, it sees increased vandal activity in the overnight hours, including drinking and smoking, as evidence is present on a daily basis. We feel that the added patrols from the sheriff, and beefed up code enforcement, will be enough to keep the preserve safe and mitigate any danger. 4.Sub-Committee Reports: o Barn: Julia Zarcone/Val Metcalf Julia reported that the sub committee was waiting for Tori to have some drawings made up to begin to build community support for a covered arena.
