Meeting Minutes
Meeting Time: Monday January 13, 2014 from 9-10:30 AM Happy New Year!
Meeting Place: Parks and Recreation Building

1. Call to Order 9:00 a.m./Roll Call (Quorum = 4) Welcome Council Liaison and
Committee.Present: Chair: Kathy Evans, Rebecca Hickman, Champa Sreenivas, Scott
Vanderlip, Julia Zarcone. Staff Sarah Gualtieri. Council liaison courtney Corrigan.
2. Approval of Past Minutes - None. Table till next meeting
3. Public Comments: Nancy Couperous spoke about Earth day and reserving the Big cats.
She also mentioned that acterra would be helping with the weed abatement at Byrne
Preserve.
4. Spring/Summer Class Update – Sarah Gualtieri said the guide was finished and off to the
printer. Cover looks great and will feature Kavita’s daughter and a Foothill teacher. Will be
out in February with new YRRP classes included. The guide may be delayed to insure that
the new class schedule for YRRP can be included once the new manager has been hired.
5. Marketing Update:
Guide will be marketed as usual with additional copies dropped off at schools.
6. Events Update:
Hoppin Hounds 4/19 Rebecca – On track.
Earth Day 4/27 – Kathy and Nancy Couperous – On Track. Cats reserved.
Pathway Run 5/10 – Scott – on track. T-shirt designed. Theme with tracks and
footprints of path users. Needs volunteers, will coordinate closer to date.
Town Picnic 6/1 – P&R will have a sand table and make effort to reach out to
families with preschool age children for the new Preschool program.
4th of July Parade 7/4 – On track. Needs volunteeers, ask LAHFamily.
Hoedown 2014 9/6 - On track – will be a daytime event to feature the new YRRP
and other P&R programs. Great opportunity to highlight the new Barn manager and
introduce to the community.
Holiday Barnlighting 2014 12/7 – On track. Santa is great! Will forward request for
donation to relay for life in lieu of payment to Santa.
Update on LAHfamily Spring Egg Hunt 4/19: Jennifer Carlstyrop will make budget
request at March meeting.
Youth Commission Update: Several things are planned for spring – a movie night
and a leadership conference. Kids will also be getting t-shirts with their logo.
7. Facilities Update:
Discuss P&R goals for our public park spaces: A resident sent a request for a bocce
ball court and Sarah directed them to a location in Los Altos. If enough peo-ple are
interested we can consider locations in town. Rebecca Hickman will look into possible dog
park locations that are non traditional. There is a need for toddler classes or play group
meetings in town. Our new member will begin a preschool playgroup and get the calendar
into the guide
Westwind Community Barn – RFP Status on Applicants – 2 applicants have
submitted proposals and the council will make a selection tomorrow 1/14. P&R members
of the selection committee have idendified their preference and most members of P&R will
attend the council meeting.
8. Brown Act Training for committee members - Staff has indicated that there will be a
special council mandated training for all committee members in March. Contact Deborah
Padovan to confirm your attendance.
9. Old Business: Follow Up on Request for additional P&R Staffing or intern. P&R
committee would still like to hire additional support staff for Sarah to help with the peak
times and added responsibilities of the added P&R programming. Sarah has located an
intern to help[ with some of the SR. committee work, but no regular staff person has been
hired.

11. Set Next Meetings: 2/10, 3/10, 4/14, 5/12, 6/9, 7/14, 8/11?, 9/8,*10/6, 11/10,
*Special meeting. New Officers elected each July.
Associate Members confirmed each January. Jamie Lucia was unanimously
approved for 1 more term as associate member
