Public Comment
Deborah McCarley spoke to the PRC regarding Jane Kawasaki leaving the area, which affects the
availability of horses for members of the Pacific Ridge Pony Club. She stated that there are
currently nine members of the Pony Club that rely on Jane’s horses. Deborah inquired whether
the Town could find someone to take over programming and provide horses for PRPC during the
interim time from Jane’s departure and the new WWCB management taking over. She is afraid
that Pony Club will lose members. She also expressed concern that the needs of Pony Club
members will be a lower priority for the new management. It was suggested that Richard Sereni,
as well as Barn Supervisor Rita might have sources for leasing horses for Pony Club members.
Nancy Couperus told the PRC that the picnic area at WWB is very hot and that there is no shade.
She asked whether a canopy could be purchased. Sarah will look into this.
WWB Update
The RFP has been finalized and Sarah has been working on last edits, verbiage and format before
it goes to the Town attorney. The RFP will go to Council for a vote on June 20th and released the
next day. The site tour will be held on July 15 with proposals due from potential Concessionaires
on August 14th.
Interim Barn Supervisor Rita has started at WWCB. She will be a manager only and will not do
any training. Sarah is having weekly meetings with Rita and gets status updates. Sarah reported
that Manny and Miguel have new schedules and that they are both very happy with the changes
made.
The PRC co-chairs have written a letter on behalf of the PRC to WWCB stake holders regarding
Jane Kawasaki’s departure and both the Town and Parks and Recreation Department’s
commitment to ensure that future riding programs will continue to meet the high standards set by
Jane. On Thursday, June 20 at 5:00 p.m. a potluck will be held at WWCB for all interested to
honor Jane. This will be followed at 6:00 p.m. with a proclamation and thank you to Jane for her
service to the community at the Town Council meeting.
Summer Programs Update
Sessions 1-3 of the Summer Riding Camp will run as scheduled and sessions 4–7 will be
cancelled due to Jane’s departure.
Programs that are doing well are Green Bean Kidz, Lego Flix, and Animation Flix. Ohlone Camp
registration is a little slow.
Pathways Update
Kit Gordon told the PRC that we have 4 owl boxes donated by Cal Water. One is up at Purissima
Park. Nancy Couperus suggested that we contact the Audubon Society to help place the
remaining owl boxes.
Hoedown Update
Kathy reported she is working on finding a vendor for food. She is also considering the Corn on a
Stick truck. Kit Gordon is going to look into getting students from BCS to play bluegrass music
during the event.
Youth Commission
The Youth Commission is finished for the year. New co-chairs have been elected and Sarah
reports that building a Youth Commission website is one of their major goals for next year.
Meeting adjourned 10:17 a.m.
Next meeting is July 8, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the Parks and Recreation Building
Respectfully submitted,
Patty Radlo
