The event will feature line dancing with a caller, but the emphasis for the day will be on teaching the public, not just a performance, so they will not violate their use permit. Hidden Villa would like help from the Parks and Recreation with the following: 1. publicity 2. support in their effort to secure funding from LAH Town Council 3. programming – we can do our own programming After discussion the PRC made the following motion: Motion: The members of the Los Altos Hills Parks and Recreation Committee at their March 14, 2012 regular meeting voted unanimously to recommend that the Town of Los Altos Hills support Hidden Villa both financially and promotionally for the July 15, 2012 Los Altos Hills Parks and Recreation and Hidden Villa co-sponsored event. Committee Business Linda Swan is resigning from the committee. Jaime Lucia is going from regular member to associate member. Facilities and Parks Update Riding Arena – Sarah Gualtieri reported to the PRC that the sprinklers at the Town Riding Ring have been upgraded with eight new manual turn-on sprinklers. “How to” information has been sent to LAHHA, and Sarah has offered to meet with LAHHA if needed. Westwind Community Barn – Rodent control was discussed – Kit Gordon, not present at today’s meeting, will obtain names of additional potential vendors. A subcommittee of Scott Vanderlip and Julia Zarone, will investigate the following: 1. possibility of bringing in owls 2. what is the Town currently doing for rodent control 3. additional potential vendors The subcommittee will also prepare a presentation for Council. Julia also recommended that the Open Space Committee be contacted and involved. Composting Toilet – Sarah Gualtieri gave the PRC information on composting toilet installation. She stated that a water line would be needed and would have to be approved. Purchase of the toilet would run approximately $22,000.00, with an additional $4,500.00 and 34 hours for tank installation. Monthly maintenance would be required, which the Town could do. A County permit would be required and the toilet would be subject to Department of Health inspections. For camps this summer, a Port-a-Potty will be use, and Sarah has already placed the order. The PRC suggested that Sarah try and get a brown colored port-a-potty to blend in with the environment, as well as possibly putting up some free standing lattice for screening. Activity Guide Sarah Gualtieri reported to the PRC that she had gotten a rather weak response to the “opt-in” option that was advertised. She received 18 responses. Going forward Sarah will continue with ads in local media and will track where registrations are coming from. She will look into the Palo Alto Post, which has the largest local distribution, and look into the possibility of doing a postcard insert in the Los Altos Town Crier to obtain more “opt-in” sign-ups. Fall Activity Guide – All blurbs and contracts for the Fall Activity Guide are due to Sarah by June 1. The guide will be in resident’s hands by the end of August. Sarah told the PRC that she is looking into a Bollywood class and a Chinese language class. Public Events Hoppin’ Hounds – Rebecca Hickman reported that she has new laminated boundary signage for the event. Town staff will help with set-up the morning of the event. Earth Day – Sarah reported to the PRC that she is having more difficulty securing vendors because the Town’s Earth Day celebration is actually on Earth Day this year. Because of this we are competing with many other Earth Day events for participants. Pathways Run – The Main Street banner has been approved and will go up between April 1 – April 8, 2012. Sarah stated that obtaining Run sponsors is going well and that Whole Foods wants to have a larger presence this year. Awards are done, the first 150 kids will get medals, as well as the top three places for each age group. The first place runner will also receive a trophy. Shirts this year will be dry wick as opposed to 100% cotton, and are made in the USA. Patty Radlo will begin volunteer solicitation approximately 6 weeks before the Run. Town Picnic – The PRC will have a sand table again. Julia Zarcone suggested having a balloon person or a clown. Old Business The charter review is moved to the PRC’s next meeting.
