She also stated that she thought that the committee should seek a new member that is a senior who has participated in Parks and Recreation Department programming and/or a parent of preschoolers. Kit and Julia have been actively trying to recruit potential committee members. Facilities Update Kathy reported that a ball from Little League Field #1 was hit past the current netting and into the Riding Arena. She stated that when the additional safety netting was installed, it stopped 30’ short of the original specifications. It was discussed that the Town should look into ways the fencing could be extended. Also an incident report form has been developed for riders to report any incidents with Little League. Patty Radlo suggested that the Board of Little League be informed about the Incident Report Form. Barn Manager Crystal Petralli is out until the end of this week with a broken ankle. Crystal, Debbie Pedro, and Carl Cahill are still working on finalizing the WWCB rules, regulations and procedures documents. The members of the PRC would like to review these documents before they are finalized. Sarah Gualtieri reported to the PRC that she has been looking into alternative forms of pest control for the barn. She has gotten a proposal from one company for zinc phosphate, a pellet made from grain, that becomes active only when consumed. Kit and Julia will look further into this method. They will also get information on a trapping service. Program/Class Updates Sarah Gualtieri has reached out to area teachers to develop potential new program offerings. Kathy suggested doing presentations to teachers at area schools in an attempt to get new offerings and teacher instructors. It was suggested that some of the classes offered by the Parks and Rec Department might have better enrollment if an Introductory Class or Workshop was offered initially to introduce people to the content, as well as to gauge participant interest, and then offer a full length class. Kathy reported that the leather tooling people from the Hoedown were interested in doing a one day class. Other suggestions were spinning/weaving and disc golf. Sarah will make a list of potential class offerings and develop a “roadmap”. Sarah reported that 15 Activity Guides had been sent out based on the Parks and Rec ad in the LATC. Events Pathways Run is May 12, 2010 Earthday is April 22, 2010 Town Picnic is June 3, 2012 Sarah reported that the Hoedown was successful. 163 meals were sold, but more food and beer were needed. People were asking where the wine was this year. Also people would have preferred glasses to be sold with beer on tap in a keg, instead of bottled beer. Another comment was that parking along Altamont Road needs to be better regulated next year. For the Barn Lighting on December 4, 2011, Sarah will reserve the Santa costume. The Community Relations Committee will provide cider, and the Hickman family will provide the stagecoach. LAHF Update LAHF is supposed to be sending a person to the PRC meetings. LAHF will have a Holiday event on December 10, 2011 - with a tree lighting and movie. The group will also have an Easter Egg Hunt at Earthday. There was some feedback from last year’s egg hunt suggesting that it not be held in the arena. PRC Charter Review This will be deferred to the PRC October meeting. New Business The Joint Meeting between the Los Altos Hills and Los Altos Parks and Recreation Departments is still on hold. LA Parks and Recreation director, Beverly, is currently managing the First Street Project in downtown Los Altos. It was discussed and suggested that a request be sent in October for the chairs and Sarah to meet, and at that time give Los Altos several dates for the joint meeting. Karen Druker is requesting photos of various athletics/recreation for the artists painting pictures for the Art Show fundraiser. Next meeting October 12, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. in the Parks and Recreation Building. Meeting adjourned 10:40 a.m. Respectfully submitted, Patty Radlo, secretary .
