Meeting Time Discussion
The regular meeting time of the PRC was discussed and it was decided that the
committee will meet at 9:00 a.m. the second Wednesday of every month. This will allow
the PRC to meet the week before the Town Council’s monthly meeting, which is the third
Thursday of every month.
Activity Guide
The Fall/Winter Guide is complete and Eric Christensen hopes to have the Guide to
residents by August 27. Adult and senior classes are listed first in the Guide to showcase
that the Town has program offerings for this group. Julia Zarcone stated that she thought
many adults were not aware of the programming that the Town has for them. New
additions for the fall are Plein Air Painting and Nature Walking.
Hoe Down Update
Eric, Sarah and Jaime gave the PRC an update on preparations for the Hoedown:
- food vendor is set; California BBQ will provide chicken teriyaki, hamburgers,
cheeseburgers, veggie burgers, hotdogs, all coming with 2 sides and a drink
for $10
- due to Health Code Restrictions, a meal ticket will be sold and redeemed
for dinner at the vendor’s stand;
- Youth Commission will sell popcorn and caramel apples; Pony Club and 4-H
will have a bake sale
- 2 cases of red and 1 case of white wine are being purchased from Steve Lohr
- wine glasses have been ordered
- beer, donated by Dean Warshawsky’s brother, will also be served; the wine
glass can be used as it is stemless
- “Side Saddle”, is the band for the event
- tables, chairs, tablecloths have been ordered from Anthony Haden
- Port-A-Pottys have been ordered
- event signage is being done by Sarah; banners are up around town, is advertised
on Facebook; press releases will go out August 19th
- Elizabeth Snyder will look into organizing a Farmers Market
Summer Camps Recap
Eric gave a recap to the PRC on this summer’s camp offerings. The Riding Camps were
very strong, and next year Eric would like to add an additional week in August. Also
doing very well were the two lacrosse camps.
Ohlone Camp registration was down this summer. Feedback received expressed some
disappointment in the camp. Julia Zarcone stated she thinks that the Ohlone camp needs
to be re-evaluated. It was discussed that the camp has gotten away from being about the
Ohlone, and is now more of a nature camp. Eric will try and get a syllabus from Keith
documenting what he is actually teaching, and Rebecca Hickman will provide Eric with a
syllabus from the original Ohlone Camp. A discussion of the camp will be agendized for
the next PRC meeting.
It was also discussed that the PRC needs to assess and evaluate our camps in terms of
content, pricing, and number of weeks offered. Registration numbers and revenue per
camp needs to be checked to help decide what is offered and how the camps are
marketed. Julia Zarcone, Val Metcalfe and Kit Gordon will form a subcommittee to
perform the evaluation.
Deer Hollow
Eric Christensen reported to the PRC that the Town of Mountain View did not agree to
the stipulations put forth by the Los Altos Hills Town Council in order to receive $10K in
funding for Deer Hollow. Mountain View offered to give Los Altos Hills residents
“resident” status for Deer Hollow programs only. The Town Council has directed the
PRC to discuss and come up with a possible recommendation for annual matching dollars
for the Friends of Deer Hollow. It was pointed out that any funds given to Deer Hollow
will come out of the Parks and Recreation Department budget. Discussion will be
agendized for the September meeting.
Next meeting is Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at the Parks and Recreation
Building.
Meeting adjourned 11:07 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Patty Radlo
