Meeting called to order at 9:05 a.m. Approval of Minutes October meeting minutes approved as written. Motion by Kathy Evans, seconded by Scott Vanderlip. Barn Lighting Eric Christensen and Sarah Gualtieri updated the Parks and Recreation Committee (PRC) on preparations for the December Barn Lighting event. Lighting – Eric reported that no new lights had been purchased yet; he wants to test what we currently own. It was mentioned that any purchases need to be brand consistent because of different hues between brands. Eric said that there are currently enough lights to do the front of the Barn. The PRC discussed possibly adding lights to the trees in the courtyard area. Costumes – Costumes will still be rented this year, possible purchase of costumes will be discussed at a later date. 6 costumes have been rented at a cost of $225, and the “nice” Santa suit has been reserved. Publicity – Parks and Rec will advertise winter and spring camp offerings, the YRRP camps along with the new Riding Birthday Parties History Committee – the History Committee will have a presentation at 2:00 p.m. to dedicate both the Packard and Stegner Paths. Cake and drinks will be served. Nick Dunckel will lead a hike from Westwind Barn along the two paths and returning to the barn. Misc. – Rebecca Hickman will again provide the stagecoach; Sarah Gualtieri will check to see if any additional items need to be purchased for the gift bags; Eric and Val Metcalfe will determine chair and table needs and placement; Scott Vanderlip will provide a keyboard. Deer Hollow Update Eric reported to the PRC that Deer Hollow summer programs will be listed in the LAH Activity Guide. He told the PRC that our programs will not be listed in their publication, cost cited as the major issue. We will be able to place our Activity Guides and flyers at various Mountain View locations however. Ohlone Camp Update Rebecca Hickman gave the PRC a handout describing the goals and implemen- tation for the Ohlone Camps. The goal is to have Ohlone Camp return to its roots, with the focus of the camp being on the history and culture of the Ohlone and other Native Americans local to this area. The PRC wants the Ohlone Camps and the Nature camps led by Keith Gutierrez to have separate identities. This will allow each camp to be advertised appropriately. Rebecca will prepare a blurb on the Ohlone Camp for the Activity Guide. Activity Guide Eric gave the PRC a handout showing proposed pagenation for the Spring/ Summer Activity Guide. The committee discussed with Eric placement of various events and classes, and some changes were made. Some new offerings for spring/summer include: a course based on the books “The Hope” and “Plan B 4.0”, designed to help build one’s internal resources. An intro event would be followed with an 8 week course. LAFF is having an Easter event, which will be advertised in the Activity Guide. A choir for ages 7-13 and conducted by David Bellis, will be offered. Strategic Planning Kit Gordon has been looking over camp and class registrations for the past several years. Her initial comment is that the Parks and Recreation Depart- ment needs to do a better job in promoting their offerings to alleviate the many class/camp cancellations. Eric commented that he is in the process of trying to add more advertising tools, examples being email, Facebook, and greater utilization of school newsletters. Next meeting is Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at the Parks and Recreation Building. Meeting Adjourned Respectfully submitted, Patty Radlo Secretary
