Fall Pilot Trail Riding Program
A proposal for a pilot trail riding program was submitted for review by the committee.
(See attached.) Breene Kerr spoke on behalf of the program and said it would add further
community value to Westwind Barn.
Val Metcalfe explained that the pilot program would gauge community interest in a Parks
and Rec Dept. trail riding program and, based on the data, determine the development of
a permanent program. The criteria for a permanent program are:
-Sufficient demand from the immediate community
-Ensure safety of riders
-Ensure welfare and care of horses
-Program to be contracted out the third party
-Program should be financially viable
All rides would be guided by an experienced trail captain.
The Fall Pilot Program is designed for LAH residents and their guests and will be limited
to 4 riders due to the number of suitable mounts currently available.
Jane Kawasaki offered to manage the pilot program if the program is approved by the
committee.
A motion was made to approve the Fall Pilot Program. The motion was seconded
and approved unanimously.
Ad Hoc Facilities Committee
Scott Vanderlip reported that at the July 27th meeting Council approved the hire of a
landscape architect (Reed Dilllingham and Associates) to develop plans for the Little
League fields and Bullis fields. Reed Dillingham and Associates most recent project
was the renovation of Mitchell Park in Palo Alto.
The committee met with Tim Justus for the LASD, Town staff and Reed Dillingham to
discuss what opportunities to develop at the Bullis field site. According to Scott, there is
much to be gained from the community perspective. The architect is using the recent
facilities survey as a guideline which listed a community park and an all-sports field as
top priorities. Based on the criteria, the Bullis idea is for a park-like facility plus sport
field. In regards to the Little League fields, aside from the drainage issues, traffic safety
and parking are priority concerns.
Fall/Winter Program Guide
The guide went out a week ago. The committee congratulated Eric on a job well done.
Meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Rebecca Hickman, Secretary
