Parks and Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes
April 17, 2006
Town Hall Chambers
Present: Val Metcalfe - Co-Chair, Patty Radlo, Karin Bergh, Ben Gikis, Rebecca
Hickman, Scott Vanderlip, Steve Johnson Tod McElmore - Parks and Recreation
Supervisor, Honorable Mike O’Malley, Parks and Rep Council Liaison
Guests: Nancy Couperus, Susan Lam, Jolon Wagner
The Committee meeting was opened by Val Metcalfe at 9:38 a.m.
Park Bond Application Update
Tod McLemore said that LAHHA received Parks Bond monies approval and that the
Town Ring Improvement project is going forward.
Annual Pathway Run
Scott Vanderlip reported that everything was coming together for the May 6th event.
Update on Ad Hoc Committee RE: Governance at Westwind Barn
Nothing to report at present.
Banner for Publicity
Permanent posting sites approved by council. Tod to order event banners.
Town Picnic
Guest Jolon Wagner requested that the Parks and Rec provide Pony Rides using YRRP
horses for the June 4 Town Picnic event and that LAHHA would help with volunteer
resources. Val said that the Committee had already agreed to assist with providing
children horse/pony ride and was delighted to do so.
Facilities and Community Needs Meeting
The Committee decided to hold a special meeting April 24 to discuss, evaluate and
develop a strategy for facilities use and community needs.
Little League Building
Tod said that it looks like the Sewer project for the Little League bathroom will be going
forward
Upcoming Event Dates
May 6 – 5th Annual Pathways/Parks and Rec Fundraiser Run
June 4 – Town Picnic
Guest Request
Nancy Couperus representing the Rolling Hills 4-HClub in Cupertino asked if it would be
possible for her to hold a Nature Camp through that organization at Westwind Barn. The
Committee had no objections. It was suggested she coordinate her program and dates
with Westwind Barn management. Tod told Ms. Couperus that with enough advanced
notice the camp can be included in the Summer Activities Guide for next year.
