Meeting Minutes
October 17, 2005
9:30 a.m. Town Hall Chambers
Present: Val Metcalfe, Co-Chair, Patty Radlo, Karin Bergh, Ben Gikis
(present until 10:15am). Maureen Cassingham, Interim Parks and Recreation
Supervisor
Absent: Steve Johnson, Co-Chair
Guests: Rebecca Hickman, Jolon Wagner, Vice-President, Los Altos Hills
Horsemen Association, Jane Kawasaki. YRRP (Year-Round Riding Program)
program provider, Jean Mordo, Councilmember.
Prior to opening the meeting, Councilmember Jean Mordo presented his
proposal for Westwind Barn governance, recreation facility and property use
management and the YRRP. The Committee thanked him for his
presentation.
The Committee meeting was opened by Val Metcalfe at 10:15.
Karin Bergh motioned to approve the minutes of September 19, 2005. The
minutes were unanimously approved.
Jolon Wagner asked if Parks and Rec can provide some monies to help with the maintenance
of the Town Ring. Maureen Cassingham said that she believes some monies have been put
aside for Town Ring maintenance in the Town Capital improvements budget. She said she
would check on this and confirm the amount. Various Committee members recommended
to Ms. Wagner to present a proposal to apply for Park Bond monies to help revitalize the
Town Ring.
Maureen Cassingham said she sent a letter to St. Nicholas School to explore
the possibility of using some of their recreational facilities (field and gym)
for Town recreational programs. She has not heard back yet.
Val Metcalfe ask Jane Kawasaki, contracted YRRP program provider, to
update the Committee on the upcoming YRRP starting October 17. Ms.
Kawasaki said everything was in place. They had full subscription to the
program along with a waiting list. Jenny Whitworth, a British Horse Society-
certified instructor who previously taught at some of the P & R Summer
Riding Camps will be instructor for the fall and winter sessions.
Val Metcalfe reported that the Mind-Body fitness class was very successful
and she recommends holding another session for winter. Patty Radlo
suggested developing after school programs for children in the early spring.
The Committee agreed to review and evaluate Councilmember Mordo’s
governance proposal at the Committees’ November meeting in order to
make a recommendation to Council.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:15am.
