HomeMy WebLinkAboutFebruary 23PARKS 7 RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING February 23, 2004, at Town Hall.....9:40 a.m. ATTENDING WERE Jimmy Forbis, Patty Radlo, Rebecca Hickman, Valerie Metcalfe, Karen Bergh, Jane Kawasaki. Emily Cheng was absent. MINUTES of the December meeting were approved. A meeting of the strategic planning session will be onMarch 15, following our regular session at which time Kathy Merchant will attend. Jimmy asked the committee to think of possible candidates to interview regarding their opinion of what Parks & Recreation does. SUMMER CAMP DATES have been finalized and the Year Round Riding Program has eight and five applicants for the Wednesday classes. Jane Kawasaki told of the two new ponies (Norwegian Fjord) acquired for the program. Val Metcalfe and Jane Kawaski have arranged for the two' slots in Byrne Preserve for our use. Jimmy showed a drawing of the 'TUFF SHED' he will purchase for our use. The shed is a wooden structure in the design of a duplex to be shared by Westwind Barn and Parks & Recreation. There is a partition with totally separate locks so that we will not commingle the space...its cost was $1700. Registration for YRRP is slow, but Jimmy will work with the Barn personnel to firm the program. BULLIS FIELDS renovation will be done by COLONY for the initial amount of $4000 per field and monthly irrigation cost of $190-$250 thereafter. Council's decision was to send a representative from P & R and Town staff along with Mayor Emily Cheng to meet with the school district in regard to our proposal for the Bullis Fields. Jimmy announced that applications for all our programs are now available on the town site under P & R. PATHWAYS RUN is happening May 8. Rebecca volunteered to be a spotter at the run. There will be a $5.00 fee, and $10.00 fee if a TEE SHIRT is included. The run is non- competitive so that it appeals to kids. NEW BUSINESS; Valerie announced plans for a fund-raiser on May 1 to benefit the Westwind Barn. It will be at the Mendez property in the manner of the Kentucky Derby at a cost of %130 per person which will give the Barn approximately $85.00 per ticket. Theevent is a Buffet lunch and silent auction with horse performances as well as Mint Juleps and Champagne....and will be held from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. TOWN PICNIC is scheduled June 5. Rebecca volunteered to do Crafts. Jane volunteered to arrange pony rides, and Jimmy will have applications to our programs available. Meeting adjourned at 10:30 a.m. Next meeting will be March 15 at 9:30 a.m. at Town Hall.
