Sub Committee Reports:

the New Year.
2014 Picnic – Advance Planning
Discussion of the 2014 Picnic began with Bob Mabe saying that there had been a car show for the
last seven years. About 40 cars participate each year, half of them owned by Los Altos Hills
residents. All Los Altos Hills residents who own antique cars are asked to participate. Bob sends
invitations to car owners who live out of town. Courtenay Corrigan offered to provide contact
information to Bob for Joe Rizzo and Steve Moore who are town residents and have antique car
collections. Invitations will be sent about April 1st. Courtenay also suggested that we have a
“People’s Choice” Award in addition to the Mayor’s, City Manager’s and Town Clerk’s awards.
Bob and Bill Downey will work with Sarah Gualtieri on the details of the car show.
Deborah Padovan will be asked to contact the town committees to invite them to have
information tables at the picnic. Karen Drucker’s art committee should be included. Courtenay
Corrigan said that the new Parks and Rec representative is interested in getting families with
preschoolers together. She should be asked if she also would like to set up an information table.
Roger then tried to determine who would be in charge of what for the 2014 picnic.
Karen Emerzian and Barbara Cannon volunteer for registration
Nena Price will be asked to handle distribution and collection of meal tickets.
Ron Knapp will take care of beverages
Ron Knapp will arrange for a band. He has asked Jazz Unlimited to perform. They are checking
with their members to see if they are available.
Linda Seidel will be asked to take care of the rentals and the balloons.
Barbara Waldeck has a proposal from Mavericks Catering for food. It is about $1000 more than
last year. The price for each meal has been raised 25 cents and we have requested more staff to
serve food.
Mansour Moussavian volunteered for ice cream again this year. It was suggested that he look
into Smitten Ice Cream in Whole Foods to see if they would like to attend the picnic and give out
samples of ice cream they make on site. This would be in addition to the ice cream served for
dessert.
Jamie Lucia will be asked by Roger Burnell to run the games again.
Roger Burnell has contacted the magician and the inflatable company.
Sarah Gualtieri will contact and arrange for the climbing wall, shuttle busses, face painting, train
club, robotics, pony rides and the Bookmobile.
Courtenay Corrigan volunteered to make sangria again but is not sure if she will be available to
serve it. The Bullis Charter School Olympics is being held at Foothill College on June 1 all day.
Mike Sanders will bring the CERT trailer and the Fire District has offered to provide a “Quale
Cottage” that will cost them $1980 to rent for the afternoon.
Gary Waldeck has been in touch with the Palo Alto MEOC and will ask the Santa Clara County
Sherriff’s Department to bring a helicopter.
Other possible ideas were brainstormed:
Cheerleading exhibition might be arranged through the Youth Commission.
Petting Zoo. Roger Burnell and Ron Knapp will look into this.
Clown to walk around. Last year Dottie the Clown made balloon animals. She was kept very
busy and was stationary.
Westwind Barn might possibly bring a horse.
Scott Vanderlip could set up a booth to educate people about raising chickens.
Recognition of individual achievement by children in Los Altos Hills.
Possibilities for other events were also discussed. Roger Burnell is once again working on a tour
of new buildings at Stanford. He thinks this would be a good fall event. We might also arrange a
tour of the Foothill campus that has had some new buildings as well. Courtenay Corrigan
suggested a tour of the Bullis Charter School Fabrication Lab and it 3 D printer.
Completion of any Old Business:
Barbara Waldeck said that she did not know of any upcoming events in town that require CRC
participation. She reported briefly on two programs last fall. Janet Berry from the Santa Clara
District Attorney’s office spoke to about 60 people on elder abuse. The Foothill College Micro
Credit Club presented a program on their efforts to alleviate poverty around the world. There
were about 20 people attending.
Roger Burnell said that the new Public Arts Committee has approved five sculptures. Barbara
Waldeck asked about the one in the Town Hall reception area. She understood that the Council
approved the sculpture but they did not approve its placement. Roger Burnell said he keeps
reminding the committee of this.
Mansour Moussavian agreed to make an application to become a full member of the CRC. Sarah
Gualtieri sent him the form several months ago. He just needs to fill it out.
The Dates of our next meetings are March 11, April 8 and May 20. The May 20 meeting is a
changed date since Roger Burnell will not be back from Europe on the second Tuesday of May.
Roger Burnell adjourned the meeting at 8:45 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Barbara Waldeck, Secretary
