Committee Member Reports:
D MacMillan reported that PAUSD will reopen Garland school; this affects
only north PAUSD with no impact on LAH. A $75M renovation program
has been approved for Gunn HS. The school will become 2-story and
portables will be removed. An alternate entrance on Miranda is a secondary
concern for Gunn but would be beneficial for LAH commuters to Gunn.
S Stark reported on LASD enrollment for the 09-10 school year. LASD
Applications were 4263 K-8; 3244 K-6. There were 207 for Gardner Bullis,
12 from PAUSD. The projected school size is 240. The school will add 6th
grade and a section of 4th grade. Almond is projected at 559; Covington 488;
Oak 443; Springer 493; Santa Rita 514; and Loyola 540. S Stark reported on
a meeting with T Justus that the parcel tax might be revisited in ‘10. LASD
cut $2.1M from its budget and gave 18 teachers pink slips.
I Halsey reported that there is no all-schools public safety notification
procedure for and volunteered to create one. S Stark and D MacMillan
volunteered to assist.
AM Gallagher briefed committee on complaint against Gardner Bullis
School filed by parent with the SCCOE.
D MacMillan requested that discussion of site occupied by Pinewood School
(“Fremont Hills”) be added to future agenda.
Meeting was adjourned at 5:08pm
