HomeMy WebLinkAboutApril 3Education Committee Meeting Minutes Town Hall Council Chambers 26379 Fremont Road Los Altos Hills, CA 94022 Friday, April 3, 2009 4:00 p.m. Meeting was called to order at 4:21pm Roll Call: Bart Carey Absent Irena Halsey Present Lee Hartley Present Anne Marie Gallagher Present Duncan MacMillan Present John Radford Absent Eric Ramberg Absent Susan Stark Present Dean Warshawsky Present Committee Member Reports: D MacMillan reported that PAUSD will reopen Garland school; this affects only north PAUSD with no impact on LAH. A $75M renovation program has been approved for Gunn HS. The school will become 2-story and portables will be removed. An alternate entrance on Miranda is a secondary concern for Gunn but would be beneficial for LAH commuters to Gunn. S Stark reported on LASD enrollment for the 09-10 school year. LASD Applications were 4263 K-8; 3244 K-6. There were 207 for Gardner Bullis, 12 from PAUSD. The projected school size is 240. The school will add 6th grade and a section of 4th grade. Almond is projected at 559; Covington 488; Oak 443; Springer 493; Santa Rita 514; and Loyola 540. S Stark reported on a meeting with T Justus that the parcel tax might be revisited in ‘10. LASD cut $2.1M from its budget and gave 18 teachers pink slips. I Halsey reported that there is no all-schools public safety notification procedure for and volunteered to create one. S Stark and D MacMillan volunteered to assist. AM Gallagher briefed committee on complaint against Gardner Bullis School filed by parent with the SCCOE. D MacMillan requested that discussion of site occupied by Pinewood School (“Fremont Hills”) be added to future agenda. Meeting was adjourned at 5:08pm
