Gardner Bullis attendance projections that were provided by Tim Justus
and Erica Gilbert to Jean Mordo were shared with the committee. John
Radford expressed concern over projected declining Kindergarten
enrollment at GB.
John Radford moved to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded
by Duncan MacMillan and approved 7-0.
Peter Evans from the Town’s Environmental Initiatives Committee
discussed the idea of bussing for area public schools. Palo Alto students
pay $440/child/semester for transportation. Perhaps the town could
obtain seed funding from a federal grant to begin a program in Los Altos
Hills. Unclear whether this would be a specific-school bus program or a
community bus. Lee Hartley, Anne Marie Gallagher and Susan Stark
were designated to ascertain interest levels in such a program in the GB,
BCS and Nixon communities.
Duncan MacMillan again brought up the idea of recapturing the
“Fremont Hills” school site for public use (perhaps a public school). He
brought up three issues: 1) the property’s zoning; 2) the contract btwn
PAUSD and Pinewood; and 3) whether the Town has any power over
changing the current use agreement. Duncan brought copies of the lease
agreement to show the timeline and where there are opportunities for
change. Communication with Debbie Pedro regarding the Town’s Master
Plan was shared with the Committee. Next steps are for Dean to gather
information from Carl Cahill and the city attorney for the Ed Committee
to review.
Future agenda items are BCS-LASD negotiations and the Fremont Hills
site.
The July meeting was cancelled.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:19pm.
