HomeMy WebLinkAboutJune 12Minutes of the Los Altos Hills Education Committee Regular Meeting June 12, 2013 1. Meeting was called to order at 7:12 PM by the Chair, Ms. Rose. Present were committee members Bart Carey, Duncan McMillan, Heather Rose and Karen B. Schuster. 2. Los Altos Hills City Council member John Harpootlian was present as the council liaison with the committee. 3. Guests in attendance included Eleanor Ling-Wong. 4. Meeting Minutes from the May 8, 2013 Special Meeting were ac- cepted with changes being made to Item:11. Motion carried unanimously. 5. Heather Rose will write the Safe Route article for Our Town. Motion carried unanimously. 6. Karen Schuster reviewed the names County Science Fair Winners that reside in Los Altos Hills. Los Altos Hills Town Council will Kick off the Enthusiasm for Science by recognizing winners during the September Council Meeting instead of the June Council meeting. We will ask winners to bring displays or tangible items to show the council. Consider inviting Ellie from the Town Crier. 7. Heather Rose presented on LASD Growth Task Force: 2 school sites, 1 for BCS and 1 for LASD. If a request is made by BCS, LASD or Town Council the Education Committee would then help identify a site. 8. There was a joint meeting with LAHS and LA on how to make crossing Foothill Expressway safer for LAH's students crossing to LA. There was discussion surrounding defining the routes students should use and consider putting up appropriate traffic signals. Green town has set up bike routes and published this information. It was brought to our attention that routes in LA are designed based on improve- FINAL - approved 8-14-13 ments that will be made and they do not match up with the existing LAHS GreenTown path. 9. Other topics of discussion included: Assess interest in Safe Route for local schools from LASD Board. Geometry will be offered during the summer as an on-line course. The High School Spanish Book was approved for use at the Middle Schools. The State of Cali- fornia will now call Basic Aid Schools, Community Funded Schools. There was discussion about LCFF Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) it was determined that it includes Charter Schools. 10. Meeting adjourned at 8:56 PM FINAL - approved 8-14-13
