HomeMy WebLinkAboutAugust 12Final  –  approved  9-­‐10-­‐15   Los  Altos  Hills  Education  Committee  Meeting   Regular  Meeting   August  12,  2015     1.  Roll  Call:   Meeting  was  called  to  order  at  7:00pm  by  Chair,  Ms.  Rose.   Committee  members  (5  of  5):  Andrea  Angquist,  Kristin  Russel,  Heather  Rose,  Karen   Schuster  and  Jennifer  Carlstrom   Council  Liaison:  John  Radford   Guest:  Katie  Boisecatt     2.  Minutes  for  June  Approved:   Minutes  from  June,  2015  meeting  approved   •  Motion  made  to  approve  minutes  from  June.  Kristin  Russel  moved  to  approve   the  minutes.    Duly  seconded.  Motion  Carries  unanimously.     3.  Chair  and  Secretary:   Nominations:         Jennifer  nominates  Heather  for  Chair  Duly  seconded.    Motion  Carries  unanimously.   Jennifer  nominates  Karen  for  Secretary  Duly  seconded.    Motion  Carries   unanimously.     4.  Public  Comments  on  items  not  on  the  agenda:   No  comments.     5.  Survey:   Phone  survey  vs.  paper?  What  are  we  looking  for,  less  students  enrolled  in  local   schools?    Many  Town  committees  want  to  participate  in  the  survey.  Add  Ed   committee  questions  to  the  survey.  Survey  Pre-­‐school  parents  where  are  they  going   to  school.      Radford  says  the  Council  will  make  committees  aware  of  survey  plans.     6.  Bicycle  and    Pedestrian  Safety:   Bicycle  and    Pedestrian  safety  now  included  in  the  Los  Altos  Hills  Master  Plan.       Council  is  investing  in  Miranda  Safe  Route  to  school.      Enrollment  data  would  help   narrow  down  the  most  used  routes  to  Gardner  Bullis  School  .         Suggestions:   Bring  a  large  format  map  to  school  and  ask  all  parents  how  they  get  to  school   If  the  paths  were  better  or  routes  were  better  would  they  bike/walk  to  school   Jennifer  will  speak  with  Principal  Kinnaman  about  a  survey  of  parents  through  the   WOW  team.         7.  Updates:  The  Our  Town  article  addresses  traffic  issues.    Include  a  small  survey  in   Our  Town  next  time.       Add  to  the  enrollment  report  Tax  Data  LCFF  (local  control  funding  formula)  action   to  make  the  LCFF  data  meaningful.       Final  –  approved  9-­‐10-­‐15     8.  School  updates:   LASD  talking  points:    1.  No  more  litigation,  band  aides,  disturb  the  kids,  fiscally   responsible,  small  neighborhood  schools.    Many  open  questions:    What  will  happen   next?  Purchase  or  lease  of  new  land?    Will  BCS  be  on  new  land?  Will  LASD  need  to   adjust  boundaries?  Close  schools?     Meeting Adjourned 8:18pm.
