The  purpose  is  to   understand  whether  or  not  new  land  or  a  new  school  site  is  justified  for  LASD   as  they  determine  how  best  to  spend  bond  proceeds.   Comments:   • We  have  the  demographer  report  from  LASD.    Official  enrollment  data  from   LASD  most  likely  not  available  until  October.   • Gardner  Bullis  School  is  the  only  LASD  elementary  school  to  add  enrollments   over  last  year.   • LASD  expects  overall  enrollments  to  be  “flat”  versus  last  year.   • BCS  expects  enrollments  to  be  “flat”  versus  last  year.     Final    –  Approved  10/7/15   Page 2 of 3       3.  Minutes  for  August  Approved  as  presented:   • Motion  by  A.A.,  J.C.  seconds.    Motion  passes  unanimously.     4.  Enrollment  Report  Letter  to  Superintendents:   • Committee  to  prepare  two  letters  to  request  enrollment  data:       1)  traditional  public  schools  –  last  year’s  letter  updated  for  LCFF  &  2015-‐16   to  be  sent  to  Clerk,  Cc:  John  Radford   2)  charter  school  –  new  letter  to  be  sent  to  Mayor  Corrigan,  Cc:  to  John   Radford   Motion:       • Create  subcommittee  of  Heather  Rose  and  Steve  Hubble  to  author  &  submit   the  two  letters  as  outlined  above.       • By  A.A.,  J.C.  seconds.    Motion  passes  unanimously.   Comments:   • Written  comments  submitted  by  Duncan  MacMillan  and  distributed.     5.  Routes  to  School     • Gardner  Bullis  Walk/Bike  Routes  through  LAH  experiment.    Town  Engineer   has  prepared  maps  of  roads  and  pathways  to  Gardner  Bullis  with  distance   circles  around  the  school:    .5m,  1m,  1.5m,  2m.    Heather  will  schedule  with  the   Principal  to  gather  written  feedback  for  routes  and  issues.   • Safety  of  crosswalk  at  Fremont  Road/Frement  Pines  Lane  (see  #1  Council   Report  above).   • September  Our  Town  article,  “Bicycling  to  School”  encourages  safety.   Comments:   • Students  (elementary  &  junior  high)  are  crashing  on  the  “S”  curve  path  from   Miranda  to  W.  Edith  on  Fremont  Road  due  to  loose  rocks  on  the  cement   pavement.  Students  need  extra  training  in  “bike  handling”  to  handle  these   conditions.    Can  LAH  Town  staff  “sweep”  loose  rocks  from  concrete   pavement  of  “S”  curve  from  Miranda  to  W.  Edith  on  Fremont  Road?   • Trucks  (maintenance  &  construction)  are  parking  on  the  pathway  on  La   Paloma  from  7:45  am  to  8:30  am.    Students  commuting  to  school  via  pathway   are  forced  into  the  road  and  traffic  to  go  around  these  trucks.     6.  LASD  Update:   • Moving  to  standards  based  grading  for  K-‐8.    Implementing  the  Haiku   Learning  Management  System  across  the  district.   • Allowing  each  school  in  LASD  to  design  school-‐specific  experiments  in   “individualized  learning”  which  is  a  district-‐wide  goal.    See  also:   The  Myth  of  Average:    https://youtu.be/4eBmyttcfU4     7.  PAUSD  Update:   • Save  the  2008  presented  to  the  Board  of  Education.    The  one  issue  the  board   members  commented  on  was  cheating.    A  majority  would  like  to  see   something  done  about  this.   Final    –  Approved  10/7/15   Page 3 of 3         8.  Project  Safety  Net  Supported  Student  Film,  “Unmasked”:   • Film  students  from  Gunn  &  Palo  Alto  high  schools  worked  over  the  summer   with  on  a  new  documentary  film  on  local  teen  suicides.    The  project  received   support  from  Project  Safety  Net.    For  more  information  see:     https://www.facebook.com/docxfilms/   • Texting  lines  for  teen  suicide  are  getting  good  results.   • September  Our  Town  article,  “Fostering  Mental  Well-‐Being”  lists  local  mental   health  resources  for  families.     9.  New  Business:   • SBAC  results  came  out  from  the  state.    See:    CA  News  Release  9/9/2015   http://www.cde.ca.gov/nr/ne/yr15/yr15rel69.asp       There  being  no  further  business,  Chair  Rose  adjourned  the  meeting  at  8:40  PM.
