1) Approved minutes of April meeting.
2) Ray Egan reported a meeting is scheduled Wednesday, 5/17, for final pre construction
agreement of EOC antenna. Jim Abraham reported that work at the water tank is in
progress. (Note: Later, Monday, 5/22, he reported that he had misinterpreted what he saw
and that there was no progress.)
3) Jerry Tomanek showed the proposed photo badge layout. Group approved proceeding into
production. Jerry will complete in June.
4) In a discussion of how to program radios, Scott Overstreet gave a short talk on how to
program an ICOM W-32. Ed Jones stated that he had checked out the quick guide for the
ICOM W-32, but had not yet done so for the fixed radios.
Note: Scott Overstreet will give a detailed talk on how the W-32 works at the July meeting.
5) Dru Anderson announced that all operators certified for mutual aid must complete the
Incident Command System (ICS) training by December 31st. Training is available online
and links to it are available at the SPECS web site, www.specsnet.org.
6) Dru Anderson asked members to report periods when they would be out of the area or
otherwise unavailable for extended periods of time. This is to know what resources might
be available in the event of a community emergency.
7) The town’s Emergency Preparedness Committee and the Emergency Communications
Committee will have a combined table / exhibit at the towm picnic on June 4th.
(Post Note: Steve Garcia and Dru Anderson assembled an information and emergency
display table at the picnic and Steve and Dru “manned” it during the picnic. There were a
number of people who came by to discuss CERT, ham, and related preparedness.)
8) In an extended discussion of high speed data communications, Sam Wood advocated
using ham-only channels in the 5 gigahertz band because of noise and interference tin the
shared bands. He also noted that the 3.5 gigahertz band is open and good radios are
available. Sam will give an information talk on this at a future meeting, potentially July.
9) Jim Abraham reported that the 2 meter alternate repeater frequency has been taken by a
group in Santa Rosa and contesting their claim is not feasible. A 440 frequency is
available but we need to get equipment in operation before trying to coordinate. David Pratt
moved and Smitty Smithwick seconded a motion that we proceed with a temporary
repeater on 440 to claim the frequency. Sam Wood will investigate scrounging temporary
equipment. Final Equipment cost would be around $4K and a proposal will be made, if the
operation can be proved.
10) No other business was presented and the meeting adjourned at 2030.
Respectfully submitted,
Ed Jones, LAH ECC Assistant Secretary
