Chairman Ray Egan called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.
Ray Egan requested that the July ECC minutes be modified to reflect that he did
not conduct any part of the July meeting. Bob Anderson moved to approve
the minutes pending the aforementioned edit, Miles Seiver seconded and
the motion passed.
Andy Fawcett solicited recommendations for a replacement EOC TNC. His
research found that a model PK-96 TNC would be best for the Town. Scott
Overstreet suggested that two TNCs be purchased so as to have a
backup in case one fails. Scott Overstreet motioned to support the
purchase of two PK-96 TNCs for the EOC, Jim Abraham seconded and
the motion passed.
Ray Egan asked other committee members for information regarding the
availability of Steve Garcia. No information was available.
Duncan MacMillan suggested upgrading the amateur radio antenna and installing
a repeater at Westwind Barn. Jim Abraham felt that it would be a poor
location for a repeater.
Edwin Jones reported that the next county-wide ARES/RACES drill is scheduled
for October 23, 2010. There will be a MAC drill on September 25, 2010. A
county training schedule is available online at the ARES/RACES website.
Individuals interested in checking the status of their MAC application
should contact the county directly.
Ray Egan informed the ECC that he will be absent for the September ECC
meeting. Secretary Miles Seiver will be acting chairperson for that
meeting.
Ray Egan presented a new plan to include a training component in each ECC
meeting. A tentative list of topics to be discussed includes: county
communication, radio equipment, packet communications, drill training
and net operations, and emergency communications and CERT. Ray
Egan distributed a survey to ECC members to determine which topic
should be the subject of the first training. Jim Abraham suggested that the
information could also be useful to CERT members. Dru Anderson
responded that the lessons could overwhelm CERT members without
amateur radio licenses. Scott Overstreet noted that he can talk about all
aspects of radio theory, not just radio equipment.
Ray Egan reported that an inventory of ECC radio equipment is pending
response from Steve Garcia.
Miles Seiver asked ECC members for ways in which the committee website
should be updated. He had already noted that the minutes and agendas
provided through the site are outdated. Al Whaley currently owns the
domain and provides web hosting for the website. Miles Seiver will contact
him to determine the best way to go about updating the website.
At 7:39 pm Bob Anderson moved to adjourn the meeting, Jim Abraham
seconded, and the motion passed. Scott Overstreet was opposed to this
motion because he felt it was too early to end the meeting and other topics
could be discussed.
Respectfully submitted,
Miles Seiver
